TPWD says it's going to be a good dove season, I sure don't know where their seeing all these birds because the numbers are below average in this part of Texas. There must be a bunch in South Texas or their seeing a bunch north of us...I sure don't know.

I drove from Graham to Haskel this morning and I didn’t see enough dove on those cut sunflower fields to make a meal. No local birds this year. I would recommend throwing an extra case of cold ones in the cooler opening weekend.

I'm getting pics from our guide near Haskell, he is telling us birds are everywhere. I'm not worried, he has access to several fields in that area!

I'm headed to Haskell, and the land owner said not as many birds as last year but they have excellent numbers. Hunting over wheat and sunflower. I did see outstanding Dove counts in Phoenix this past week. White wings out the ying yang out there. May need to do a Yuma trip someday.

We have hunted in Hamlin for the last 9 years and my guy called me two days ago and said NO birds this year, better start looking elsewhere.

It’s definitely going to be a tuff hunt until birds down. If you have water may have a few to hunt.

Hey buzz i take it you have been burned by an outfitter as many of your posts you make are negative.
Sorry for your experience
Please remember that some guys do actually bust their hump to show clients a good time. There are some great outfitters on here that i would even be willing to spend my hard earned money with. In the grand scheme of things it is hunting not killing. BUT a guided hunt should provide a good safe opportunity to harvest game. Personally i feel I have done a pretty good job of this over the last 20 years. Probably wouldn’t still be in business if i hadnt done something right.
And yes there has been plenty of tough days afield.

We do things a different than most as we don’t just have 1 or 2 or 3 fields. If there are birds in 40 square miles of haskell we should have some. There’s plenty of guys on here that can vouch that we work hard to keep
on birds.
Now the reports that people have been looking for is... There are birds.. Not as many as years past but still enough birds to have good hunts. After the 1st week it will be interesting to see what happens. The local bird. numbers do seem to be down. I have posted some videos of some good fields though.

I can vouch for guys like aggiewall. He hunts or hunted fields we have been on. In down years it can be feast or famine. Evening hunt slow and then morning like Argentina. Trust your guide. In 9 years I have never had 2 slow hunts in a row out there. It is better if the morning hunt is lights out like it normally is... Might have to drive 40 miles another direction but they find the birds and fields.

My guide reported low numbers around Uvalde. I appreciated his call and offer to cancel the hunt, which I did. Professionalism counts a lot

Anson yesterday had a good hunt. East of Haskell this morning 4 birds between 2 guys. Not many birds anywhere. Don't hear shooting, don't see any on the power lines. Just dead. Lots of white wings in Anson which is cool. Was gonna hunt Monday but not now. Just not worth it.

I was outside Haskel yesterday and it was slow going. Went back out this morning and it was noticeably slower. Got 5 birds with 7 shots, but otherwise it was dead. Birds seem to have pulled out

Throckmorton, south of town about 5 miles .. scratched out a limit on Saturday evening (drove in the AM) sitting on a pond, but it took about 3.5 hours. Setup was across the street from 75 acres of sunflowers - wasn't much shooting going on. Sat in a different field about 4 miles away Sunday and Monday - this setup was a 40 acre cut hay field that had 40-50 acre sunflower fields to the north and west - more shooting from day hunters going on here, but nothing like years past. Birds were moving very slow. Ended up with 5 on Sunday (AM+PM) and 2 Monday AM. All mourning dove, no white wings. On the way out, we saw some bigger groups of 10-15 of what appeared to be WW moving around. Hoping it picks up more later in the month.

I shot a limit Saturday and Sunday in Stonewall county. My son in law and two daughters shot 40 between them Saturday and Sunday.

not many people had sunflowers make in and around Moran. Killed a handful of birds over tanks Saturday evening but heavy and unexpected rain cancelled our sunday pm hunt. unfortunately I'd set up mojos around tanks midday then got 1.5" of rain and when i went to get my dekes monday AM they were underwater! btw, snakiest trip to the lease in the 18 years on it. Killed two rattlers at our trailer, had killed one in previous 18 years. also had a huge coachwhip at the trailer, which i assume means he was there for a reason. 7'+ long and a beautiful snake

We hunted Rule and had a tough time sort of. There are no crops. I guess the drough persuaded farmers not to plant and it looks like a desert out there. We still managed limits over the water tanks but it’s only in the evenings. Mornings were tough. Birds were spread out so much that shooting was slow
