I have seen a group of them about 15 years ago out here. More recently I have definitely heard them, first one on camera.

That's awesome. My place is 1 county west of yours. I have been in those woods for 42 years and never seen or heard any. Maybe I'll start seeing/tasting some. I've never killed/eaten wild turkey. Oddly enough, just a few weeks ago in Keller my daughter said, "what's that big bird with a blue face". I did a u-turn and it was a turkey strutting along the side of the YMCA, 20 yards from a very busy street. Some undeveloped fields around there but nothing like Anderson and Freestone counties. Good luck.

The coyote population keeps our turkey population in check, not enough big trees for them to roost in.

I know, its pretty rare. Not a season for them in our area yet. I know SFA released some around 2000. Our place backs up to Gus Engeling WMA, I wanna say some were released there, though I am probably wrong.

My place is just a few miles from Gus Engeling WMA. I'll be on the look out. All my life people have asked when I mention the land in East Texas, do you have turkeys. I have never understood why they ask. Like I said, 42 years and never a turkey 1. And as you know, there are plenty of trees/woods for them to roost.
