I have a cabin rented near San Juan NF in western Colorado. My SIL and I both have elk cow tags for unit 70. We had up to four other people that were going to go, and now have backed out. We have one other person that is going with us. We are looking to see if there are 2-3 other people on the Forum that would like to share the cabin ( sleeps up to 8) with us Oct 19-26. We are not partiers or drunks. If this is your game please don't reply. I don't mind if someone drinks at the end of the day, but I have no use for drunks. We will haul a Jeep Cherokee up with us to go into the mtns with.

If this may interest you, send a PM for more details. We ar leaving on the 18th headed to the cabin.

sounds like a nice opportunity ... roughly where in western CO (unit or nearest town) is the cabin located that might help for anyone interested.

That would be a great chance for a buddy or someone to tag along that doesn't hunt and get some experience in the mountains. Maybe get a camp cook or someone to hold down the fort while you're out hunting and be willing to help pack out for a little meat share.
Any good fishing around the cabin? Lots of ways to fill a day without hunting.

Sounds like fun, I wish my knees were in better shape. Bear hunted that area years ago when they had a spring season. Miss those annual trips to Colorado and Idaho I used to make....Good Luck!

PMK the cabin is near Groundhog Lake with the mailing address of Dolores, CO.

Wytex the Groundhog lake near the cabin is supposed to have some of the best Trout fishing. Camp cook may be a good idea too. Thanks.

You’ll be just down the road from us. Good luck.

I’ve always wanted to fish that lake, but elk hunting always took priority.

Yeas sir, y'all could almost meet up for a sack lunch!

Good opportunity for someone to get the "feet wet" up there. IIRC, there was a thread not long ago with many guys lamenting on no one to go with, well, here ya go..

I used to hunt down the road from you. We used to hunt just west of Valera. If I get a chance to fish I will, but I too am going for the elk hunt first. Good luck on your hunt.

Welcome to THF by the way.

Proof of a hunter education course is required to hunt in Colorado if you were born on or after January 1st 1949
Does anyone have suggestions on how to fulfill this requirement before October?

If I still lived in Texas, I would be all over this. And just as happy to be the camp cook as long as I could fish some.

Still have space for 2-3 hunters. Like I posted earlier you can hunt part of the time period. If you have OTC tags you would be able to hunt other units than unit 70 where we are hunting. The cabin is situated near units 70,71, and 711. Shoot me a PM if you would like to talk more.
