Hey Guys, with a sad heart, I am looking to re-home my setter. he's 1.5 yrs old pure bred LLewellin Setter
. I think he'll make a great hunting dog, he has a motor for days and great prey drive. I worked with him last fall and winter on pigeons, and tried to keep him in shape during the spring and fall. His hunting potential is not the problem
The reason I have to part is because of his resource guarding issues inside the house. He started to develop an issue months back about guarding his food, bones and certain toys he doesn't want to give back. So I started working with him on this to hopefully help correct the issues and make him a better family member, but I ran out of time. My wife and I just brought home our new born son. I can deal with him fairly easily, but I feel he is just too much of a liability to my wife and newborn.
For the most part he is a great, energetic, fun pup, that can be really sweet. He just needs the right environment. I will not surrender him to shelter, so I'm reaching out to the THF community in hopes he could be a good fit for someone.
Im not looking for any money out of this, Despite his issues I still love him and just want to find him a good home and someone to take him hunting.
I live in the Austin
Please DM for More info

Thanks Guys - Happy Hunting

Good looking dog. When you say “Guarding” does that mean he bites? Is this the same dog you posted about that has allergies?

Oh dam. I've read about these dogs. 'Wish I had room. Beautiful boy. But, you're making the right decision. Don't doubt yourself.

I have him posted on Texas Quail Hunters and Llewellin setters FB account. A lady there contacted LLew rescue. If this doesn't work I don't know what will. I hope you don't grow to regret this, that is a sweet looking pooch.

Keep the dog. Sometimes you have to apply sugar and sometimes you have to apply vinegar if you know what I mean. He has to understand that you, your wife, and the baby are the alpha figures in his life. It is not easy nor pretty, but you must change his attitude even if it is the hard way. I will leave it at that.

I disagree. I had one that I had to put down early because I could not trust her around other dogs or double her up in adog box while hunting.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

To the OP. I know it has to be tough to give up your bird dog. If your not comfortable with it around your baby then you are making a wise choice. The down side of something going wrong would be a heavy burden to carry.
Hopefully the right someone will end up with him and it will be a win for all, including the setter.

Did the boy find a home?

Thanks all For the help.
I have found him a good home, with someone experienced with Llewellin setters. I think he's going to fit in nicely.
