Hey everyone I have a trip planned to hunt up in Michigan and I was wondering have any of you traveled with your Rifle by plane and did it lose its Zero?
I have a Sako 85 finlight In 7mm with a Leupold Vx6 on top tucked away in a SKB case. Trying to protect it as much as I can in a molded foam case.
There will be a chance to check my Zero of course I was just curious
what makes a rifle lose zero and have you had it done after a plane flight?
This will take part in December so yes it will more than likely be a lot colder in the north woods of michigan.

I have flown more than some and less than others, but have yet to have my rifle lose its zero.
Always check of course, but properly protected it’s fine most of the time.

I have done it several times and have never had an issue with a rifle losing zero.

I've only done it on one trip, but it was three different planes going and three coming back and it never lost zero.

Should be fine, just double check it after you arrive.

I don't know which airline might have done the damage, but my rifle was so far off when I arrived in a hunting camp in British Columbia that it took me 3/4 box of shells to get sighted back in.
However, that rifle was on 4 different planes before I got to camp. That was 40 years ago, and the caring cases now are a lot better. Just don't take it for granted that it is still zeroed in.

Scopes are also quite a bit better than they were back then.
