I’ve lost all interest in deer hunting. I’ve killed 100’s. I don’t even go out to sit in a stand because it’s boring. I do most of the cooking at camp and let the kids kill my deer for me. I miss the days before feeders when hunting was a sport on big acreage. I think I would enjoy deer hunting again if we could use dogs in Texas. The way deer hunting is now grocery shopping is more exciting. Mule deer hunting is still enjoyable but waiting for a good whitetail buck to smell a doe eating corn while sitting in a box doesn’t do it for me.

I like watching the woods wake up. Funny how I lose my patience fishing in about 20 minutes but I can enjoy watching the woods for hours. Squirrels, rabbits, bugs, trees. I just like being outside.
I just read a book about the big thicket in the old days. They hunted everything with dogs. One guy said the greatest sport ever was hunting bear with a pack of cur dogs.

You can hunt deer with dogs in Arkansas. But nothing will piss you off like the sight of a big buck running by your stand at Mach 3 and a minute later a dog comes jogging by.

You don't have to sit in a deer blind to hunt whitetails...it is your choice to choose how and where you hunt. Pick up a bow and give that a try. I would not hunt deer with dogs.

Hunting deer with dogs has no allure to me, Coons or hogs might be fun though.
I enjoy deer hunting, like others have said if you don't like sitting in a stand watching a feeder then don't, nobody making you hunt that way.
It's hell eatin em live

In the right situation like a huge area of big forest, no fences and no agriculture or feeders, I think it would be fun. But I would sure need to practice up a lot on shooting moving targets.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Have hunted deer with dogs many times. Grewup hunting deer that way. I started seeing and killing lots more deer when not hunting with dogs though.
Unlike some believe you can kill deer without feeders even in big woods and thick growth places.

I grew up in Mississippi and have been living in Texas for quite a few years now, and I have experienced both aspects of deer hunting (with dogs and without dogs). One of my favorite memories as a kid was riding with my dad as he ran his dogs. We used to belong to a hunting club where everyone did it, but we also had rules set forth regarding hunting with dogs as well. There are pros and cons to both methods:
On the positive side, hunting with dogs is exciting, listening to the sound of the dogs chase a deer helps you determine which direction it’s headed so you can set up for a shot, you have the potential to flush out that old nocturnal monster buck that you’ve only ever seen on the game cam, and it’s a great team builder with your hunting buddies if done properly.
On the minus side, hunting with dogs can be tedious when you have to go pick them up. Even with the dogs wearing tracking collars, some of them will run for miles, and none of them can read Posted signs, so chances are good that the dogs may end up on a neighbor’s property that doesn’t like the dogs running across it. I have even seen some neighbors go to extremes as to try and trap or poison the dogs to keep them off, which doesn’t make for a good relationship between the hunting club and the neighbors, if the GW gets involved. There’s also the issue of safety, which is a real concern when hunting with dogs. In Mississippi you must wear Hunter Orange at all times while hunting, but I have still heard stories of two hunting neighbors shooting towards each other when a big buck ran by between them. Neither hunter meant to do so, but in their excitement they lost their situational awareness. I can’t see dog hunting working at all in an AR county. When the dogs are chasing a deer, you literally have a split second to get a look at the deer to determine if it is legal or not, and odds are good for a mistake in judgement. The most frustrating thing about hunting with dogs is that sometimes the dogs aren’t chasing a deer at all; I’ve gotten very excited listening to approaching dogs only to realize they were just chasing a fox, raccoon, hog, or even an unfamiliar dog (ex: female dog in heat).
With all that being said, dog hunting can be a fun and exciting event, if you have the acreage to do it, hunters and neighbors that will abide by some general rules, and safety is paramount. However, in this day and age (and with people that are willing to sue at the drop of a hat), I don’t see much of a future for deer hunting with dogs, even in the states where it’s still allowed.
So, what’s a hunter to do when they get bored? There are several possible options, like archery, spot and stalk, or even organizing a deer drive with other hunters, like they do up north. However, the drive option is very risky in terms of safety, because you need to wear Hunting Orange so you are not mistaken for a deer. If you are only restricted to hunting from a blind in a small area, there are still plenty of things to do to pass the time, like watch squirrels, birds, read a book, play an app game, or you can even write some letters on a tablet to print out later. Sometimes deer hunting is not merely about killing a deer; it’s also about enjoying nature and all the creatures God has put into it. It can be a great form of meditation, and you don’t even need dogs.
Hope this helps.

I don’t think running deer with dogs is good for the deer herd nor public perception of hunters.
I would never kill a deer over dogs unless I was in dire need of a deer.
If your bored with whitetail hunting, pick up bowhunting. It’s really the only way I will hunt whitetail anymore unless I am on a place with limited time hunting trophy bucks.
I do enjoy rattling though
Try a different method of take to rekindle your fire.

Just my humble opinion, but I can't conceive of how anyone could ever get bored sitting in God's woods. Anyone that gets bored really needs to find another sport.
Maybe come here to Pleasant Grove and lay out a route to walk at dark with a Rolex on each wrist while wearing designer clothes and expensive Nike tennys while holding a roll of c-notes in each hand. unarmed of course.

It can happen to some of they do it enough. But that can be said of many things

Many years ago (before tracking collars and game cams) in a hunting club in Ark (when it was legal everywhere and done by most all) we hunted with dogs in very large tracs of timber and mountain areas. Some great memories and bonding. I would not do it now even in Ark where still legal in some counties due to all the posted land, smaller leased properties, safety etc.
I too prefer to the wake up of the woods but man I also love Central, North and West Texas for the abundance of deer to see. Just different hunting. This year I'm gonna go back to roots to E TX ridges and bottoms on family leased property (minimal pressure around) with bow to spend more time with my 77 yr old Dad. We have some good deer and lots of hogs. The deer hunting is tougher and I enjoy the scouting for rub lines, scrape lines and climbing up in a big ol white oak. Trick is picking out that oak out of thousands that the deer are preferring.
