Have a chance to buy one at what I think is a good price, pros cons? I dont reload so I know the ammo is pricey but it will only be used for hunting. NIB never fired what is it worth?

round is great but never really took off as with other wsm's. rifle is first rate and should do you well. if buying from an individual, depends how bad and fast he wants to move it. i think new these guys are $800-900? guess without looking on gun broker.
just put a great scope on it, dont skimp here , learn your ballistics.

There are two or three A7 models so there are several price points. Figure out which stock etc., and then look on GB. Also, the ammo isn't horribly expensive by magnum standards. You can get all that you want for $33-36/box on Midway. For a hunting rifle, I don't think that's a big deal. While I don't own a 270 WSM, I think very highly of the cartridge. I've owned a few Sakos and would buy another in a heartbeat.

I'd be wary of that caliber. Way more recoil than most shooters can tolerate with heavier bullets. 19 ft. lbs. with 150 grain bullets. Many better choices than that round, which is why it never took off. Kicks like a freakin' mule.

fousman is right, I think my 7WSM had less recoil. You can always add a brake for $200. I think There are actually three models Standard A7, Roughneck and Long Range Roughneck.
Id say if you could lowball and get it for $600 jump on it. Albeit a great round, its not popular which should help you.

I have a 270 wsm and a Sako A7 in 300wsm. The 270 wsm does not kick bad, recoil is not a problem. I am not a large person so take that with a grain of salt. My 270 wsm is a BLR and I have used it on antelope , mule deer and shiras moose. Knocks em down like a ton of bricks. Great coyote gun too, the first kill was a 356 yd shot on a coyote. 270 wsm shoots pretty flat and has plenty of power for anything you'll hunt down there. Reloading is fun for it and rounds are out there for factory loads. I load bonded bullets only for big game hunting. My 300 wsm Sako A7 tecomate ran me about $ 1,000 back when they came out. Nice rifle, very accurate and not too heavy for a mountain gun. It has a fluted barrel. New bottom metal is out for them if you don't like the composite trigger guard.

Most shooters struggle with recoil much above 15lbs. That doesn't mean you can't shoot it accurately, but it's not a gun you're going to want to sit on a bench and practice with. I don't want a rifle I can't shoot 20-40 rounds out of comfortably. The .270 WSM falls in the category of uncomfortable to shoot more than a couple times for me. To each their own. https://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

I have a tikka t3 270wsm and love it! Best round and rifle I have ever had! Killed bunch of animals with it, never been disappointed. Recoil on it has never bothered me at all.

I dont have an a7 I have an 85 but i am sure they are very similar. My only problem with my sako 3006 is that it kicked like a mule with the original butt pad. If it weren't for the limbsaver butt pad I would have sold it. If that round kicks that hard then I can only imagine what it is like with the sako buttpad from a wsm. OUCH!!!

19lbs isn't that bad for a magnum rifle that's going to deliver magnum results down range. I wouldn't want to shoot two boxes worth, but you could with a PAST if you needed to shoot that many in one range session. I can recall only once in my life noticing recoil while shooting in a game situation.

Thanks for the replies. I can buy this for 700 which appears to be a good price I'm seeing them on GB in the 850 to 1200 range. I do have a 270 I have shot for 20+ yrs but I thought I might like the wsm just as another option and besides I don't have one yet

Many better choices than that round, which is why it never took off. Kicks like a freakin' mule. No, it doesn’t. Kicks less than .30-06, way less than 7mm Rem Mag, .300 WM. (For reference, .270 Win shooting 150 grain bullet is at 17 ft. lbs. Anything under 20 should not pose the slightest issue for an adult.) Gains 150-200 FPS over its parent cartridge. My Nosler weighs 7.25 lbs all-in and recoil is not an issue whatsoever. Sells fine, plenty of factory ammo choices, not going anywhere.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

It would not have less based on the cartridge differences alone. .270 WSM is a pretty mild cartridge in the scheme of things. Doesn’t require a brake for hunting. IMO that rifle is a great buy at that price.

my experience with the 270wsm recoil was exactly the opposite of the above posts..relative recoil factor for the .270=1.82, for the 270wsm=2.00, not much difference
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

Well made the deal last night couldnt resist. First of all very light and feels good to the shoulder we will see about recoil. After cleaning and oil today the action is real smooth, trigger feels crisp with no creep. Put a 3.5x10 diamondback I had in the safe for now until I decide what I really want to mount. Hopefully go shoot it tomorrow.

Is the 270 wsm better than the 7 rem mag?
Just personal preference. It approches that performance with less recoil at normal hunting ranges. The long-rangers like the 7mm bullet better.
