I am having some trouble with my 30+ year old Remmy 12 ga. 11-87 Premier.

She has been my go-to scattergun for the dove opener since 1995. The last two seasons I duck hunted occasionally and when shooting 3" shells (for which it is chambered), the bolt will lock open after the third shot and full disassembly is the only way to get the bolt to release and shooting again. I have had it professionally cleaned in an ultrasound bath once a year for quite some time, thinking it was just exceptionally dirty. However I was shooting skeet recently on standard 2 3/4" shells and the bolt locked back on me and ended my day of shooting.

Now I am 30 days out from the opener and forgot about it until last night.

Any 11-87 shooters with this issue? I've Googled it and no one seems to have experienced this issue.

Seen one do this after a piece of shot got into the action. Also when was the last time the oring set was changed?

When is the last time you got a fresh o ring?

Go to brownells and search 1187. They will have a bunch of small parts for them

It has easily been several hundred rounds since the o-rings have been replaced. Good suggestion!

The gas o-rings go bad on 1100's and 11-87's all the time. However I very seriously doubt that is the problem if the gun requires full disassembly to unlock the bolt. The o-ring symptoms are usually loading and ejecting issues. I had both for years before getting fed up with them and sold them.

This. Or you may not have enough mag spring tension to smack the lifter.

Great points. I may just replace the trigger assembly, orings, AND mag spring. Seems like there are some springs that may be flat played out in ol’ Bessie. Either way, looks like I’ll plan on having a backup in the truck in 31 days.

Had the same thing happen on my dad's 1100 made in the 70'S. Had O rings replaced heavier spring installed and gunsmith did something to the little black flipper thing that has something to do with keeping the bolt open works like a champ now.
