I've been shooting hogs over the same feeder for about 3 years and in the last few weeks they have disappeared. Is that due to me hunting the same place all the time or has the July heat got them foraging elsewhere and early in the AM? I used to get 10-25 hogs every night and, as indicated, my game cams show very little activity over the last month.

Thoughts?

Same thing has happened at my lease. Hunted hogs hard for 5 years and now the number of hogs showing up has dropped significantly. It wasn’t uncommon for me to kill 5-10 hogs during a weekend trip and now 1-2 is the norm now. That said we’ve been in a drought lately, so I think the dryness isn’t helping either.

Excellent point and I hadn't factored in the drought. My lease does not have an abundance of water and the hogs are wallowing and bedding down off the property. Drought would tend to make them stay closer to their wallows and cover. Come on rain.....

Thanks!

When we hunt them they will go away, sometimes faster than other times. And then sometimes they just go away.
I hunted a place in Divine where after we shot a few pigs they would go away for 6 months. When they returned the landowner would call us and tell us to go get them. After a few weekends they were gone again. They do not like the sounds of big BOOMS. We did this consistently for 4 years.
Now we he have almost hunted them out where we are. They come around and we trap and hunt hard, it is possible to keep the numbers down.

They need water both to cool off and to drink. Properties with stock tanks that have water in them still are being over run, while places (like mine!) where all the tanks and puddles have long since dried up don't attract very many of the piggies so far this year. A few good rains and they'll begin to repopulate the areas they've deserted while looking for water.

I joined this forum precisely to get the kind of help shown on this thread. Thanks to you all and I'll go easy on the hogs 'til after deer season.

It's not the heat. Last year we were at 30 by now. This year 2 so far. Nothing on cam at all either. Lots of deer and turkey so that is what we pay for. We are in a Red River county so decent rains. My buddy in severe drought area't can keep the hogs away. Seems they ebb and flow. A year from now we could be covered up again. Or someone near us is trapping 24×7. Our cow guy traps but been a while.

If there is one thing I've learned about hogs is they are unpredictable. I am seeing hogs now where they have not been for over a year. I think they are probably just moving around a lot right now as the drought and less natural foods in some areas are changing their patterns. Once we get an acorn drop again they will change up movements a lot again.

they'll be back. In Aug/Sept I've found them standing in the stock tanks since they don't have sweat glands. Feeders just unpredictable right now.

Hunting pressure plays big roll, yet would say drought plays bigger roll.
Hogs dont have sweat glands & need water ta cool down, specialy in tripple didget. Also gives relief from ticks, fleas, chiggers, & such.
Been few years back, OSBWMA, usualy has water standing. The slew on east side bye N boundy was dried up. Very few puddles of water. Hogs followed the small stream, that year was seeing several small sounders at cams ruffly 7-8 miles as crow flies. Water tis key ingrediant, specaial in tripple didget.
As they say, they'll be back, & yes ya can keep em under control. Some areas tis worse than others. Leases been on with little water, seen no hogs nor sign. Best wishes.
