Anyone into these? I just came into these and I can say other that what the Google machine tells me, I know nothing. Heck neither one of them even have calibers on them!

They both shoot 6.5mm bullets. That's probably why the Axis powers lost the war.

6.5 Carcano. Lee Harvey Oswald's weapon of choice.

Word on the street is the Arisaka action is very strong. A few customs have been built on it.

You need to post some photos and I will tell you what you have . The Arisaka was made in two different calibers , 6.5 and 7.7 mm . The Carcano was also made in two different calibers . 6.5 and 7.35 mm . Either can have some collector value , depending on many factors .

Ok Iíll take some tonight. I assume it was taken from the field because the chrysanthemum still being on there and based on the other symbols, it was made between Ď40-45 in the Tokyo Juki Kogyo plant. Itís the little short trench version? Iíll post pics shortly.

Wait, everything but the trench part. That is the Carcano. The Arisaka is the one my grandfather fitted a Bishop sporter stock with. Fits great in that aspect but it ainít factory at all. Lol

The ariska will likely be a 6.5x50 or 6.5x51. I believe these to be the same cartridge given different designations at different times. Brass may be packaged under one designation and headstamped the other.

So the 6.5 and the 7.7 are from the same 6.5 case? So Iíd have to get bore diameter to know for sure which one it is.

If thatís directed at me I donít know anything about the 7.7. I was simply stating the 6.5s are more common than the 7.7.

What sucks is there is a ton of ammo for all the other stuff Papa had that he left to me but no rifle ammo that I could use for reference. I will admit, the research of it all sure is kind of cool to me. Little did I know, my Granny was packiní heat back in the day too. Nothing of any value in the marketplace but all of them priceless to me.

A lot of the 6.5 Arisaka rifles were rechambered to 6.5X57 which Hornady includes in their reloading books. The only Arisaka I have loaded for was one of those and I was plesantly surprised at easily finding a subMOA load for it with Hornady 160gr round nose bullets.

In his gun blowup tests P.O. Ackley determined the Arisaka was one of the toughest actions.

Following WW-II ammo forthe Arisaka was hard to come by from what I have read and is why many were chambered to a cartridge that would fit and brass was easy to find.

Since the rifle is a TJK it is a 7.7mm rifle . There is only one 6.5mm Arisaka cartridge . The 6.5mm is totally different from the 7.7 mm case .

That symbol just before the serial is what Iím struggling with other than the bottom metal. They didnít use bottom metal on arisakaís did they? What in the world did Papa do?

I know the blurring is toast but I really kinda dig it. Iím just gonna oil her up and leave it. The wood though, itís got some serious potential. Iíts perfectly inletted but needs more relief for the barrel. It touches all the way. With the nose cap, it sure feels like an old 700 until you close the bolt. Dad gum itís got some spring to it!

That's not a bad lookin rifle. I'd clean it up, lube as appropriate, and shoot it. You might have a really good shooter on your hands there. Might even be a good candidate for a spray-and-bake finish...could look really good with that wood spruced up a bit.

Thanks. Iím really surprised at the transition between the stock and the nose. Also the butt plate has some pretty serious rasp marks. It sure wasnít like him to not finish something he started. I figure he left it for me to do it.

The markings that tell what it is are on the left side of the receiver . I would need to see those .

The mark you show is the symbol for the 27 th series Tokyo Juki Kogyo . It was made later in WWII . The TJK 27 is a rare rifle with only about 40,000 made out of over 2 million 7.7mm rifles . Without a full serial number I can not place it . The " bottom metal " is normal .
