I have owned three different properties. I talked to know each of my neighbors, some just by phone to introduce myself. I asked for permission to cross the fence to retrieve any deer that may have jumped it before dying. I always gave them permission to do the same. I never had to cross and to my knowledge they never had to cross but it was nice knowing that if I needed to I could. On the property that I have now, I have only met one of my neighbors and have the same agreement in place. However two of my neighbors are timber company's so I guess I just need to make sure the deer die on my side.
Just wondering what if any agreement you have with your neighbors across the fence.

My agreement with mine is notify 1st, never know who is on stand when you cross a fence. I have only ever had issue at one place, they where "lezbeans" and top of the world anti's, I still struggle with their moral flexibility grin

MY brother FIL has land surrounded on 2 sides by timber land Weirhouser (sp) iirc, both sections are leased out for deer by the timber co, so you may still be able to find a camp near season there.

I know one of my neighbors and we have agreement to call first before crossing. The other one is new and I have not met him yet, but do a phone number to reach him. Across the highway I have not met them yet but did meet a the family who rents the house on the ranch. I could get contact info from them if needed. If not then I would call the GW first and see if he has contact info for a place if I needed it. I have not had to make a call to a neighbor yet. My other place I know how to get a hold of both neighbors on two sides and then one side is family. Both neighbors can be real azzhats so I would need to call the GW to see what he can do. I have not killed a deer on that place since the early 80's though.

I haven't seen my neighbors out there in four years. I consider this a good thing.

We have agreements with our neighbors on the east, west and south to call before entering someone else's property. I'm told the property across the road to the north has over 100 heirs and we have never met any of them. Coincidentally the place to the north has 8 stud horses running wild and when they get out on the road we're forced to call the sheriff because we have no contact number.

I have a pretty good relationship with neighbors on two sides and we typically know who/when/where each other are hunting. Neighbor to the south and I actually have a gate toward back of properties that stays open for crossing. Rules - only on foot, and guns left on your side of fence.

So far, no problems.

We all shoot 300 win mags, they don't cross fences. 20 years and have never had that issue either way. I know all my neighbors, it wouldn't be a problem if I had to.

We luckily have all areas way off the fence so no need to yet. Two fences is our landowner other property and other member I know from here. Deer has to run a long way to cross.

My first deer I ever shot was near a fence. Never knew and think it ran in there a few yards but learned a lesson. Don't hunt near a fence unless you anchor it. Was thickest cedar you ever seen. Was on a very large ranch too so made me sick. I got my own lease after that. Many many deer later no issue but it got me mad to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Had some property I was taking care of for a couple years on the San Marcos river. Introduced myself to the neighbor woman who became enraged and threatened me if she caught me on her land, spitting and cussin at me. Crazy woman. Well, i shot a hog that went over, I had to go ask to retrieve the pig, and she let me but watched me from her truck the whole time. Later she used to ask me to come over and show her where the hogs go on her place and invited me to come over and hunt. I wouldn't go...I think she wanted to bury me somewhere! Still don't know her motive. Maybe I do but don't want to say.

The place we leased for 30 years, the north and west side was owned by the same family. They did not get along with our LO at all. One day we accidentally ran into them at the local DQ. We mentioned about crossing the fence line to retrieve game. They said they didn't mind at all, as long as we didn't mind when the sheriff showed up and arrested us for trespassing.

I have a highway on one side and then two owners surrounding my other sides. Both are fine with me retrieving wounded/dead hogs. One will allow me to actively pursue hogs on his place, but it is thick stuff and I don't usually bother trying to hunt it. The other was pretty funny about the agreement. He does not want me actively going onto his property and hunting, but should I "happen" to see a hog or coyote on his place, I can hop the fence and go after it so long as I remove it from his property.

We have agreements in place with all neighbors. But I don't cross a fence without calling them 1st and at least leaving a message. And trust them to do the same for me. One neighbor is the State. That one was tricky to work out.
