Going on a bear hunt and I would like to see pictures to help train my eye. I know some basics about telling boars and sows apart but I would really photos with weights. I can shoot with my rifle but I will be taking a bow if I can get it up to speed.

Sounds like the key to success is to put out a few picnic baskets and then hunt the first one that gets eaten.

Where, when and who are you hunting with? I would talk with someone in person or on phone about this.

Ha ha ha, funny. Now can I have some serious responses? You asked this group to be serious? Good luck. On the other hand you might find some Utube videos out there.

Ha ha ha, funny. Now can I have some serious responses? 7mag was serious. If you have seen his posts before you would know he was joking. But it was still funny.

If you are going where I think it should be cover up in bears, hasn’t been hunted hard for a few years now. Hope you kill a stud. I’m no help, not a bear guy

Been hunting there for just over 30 years, lived there for 3, seen a lot of bears over that time and have killed one and helped with others. I think it is easier doing the standard "deduction", or known reasons it is a sow vs boar.
Easiest is if there are cubs or smaller bears in tow, that's pretty obvious, but mind sometimes the sow will have them set farther behind if she suspects danger, or the youngsters are lagging. Older sows from what I have seen, look very much like older boars IMO, but "generally" the boar appears blockier, wider in front and walks like he owns the place. Super obvious if he walks into other bears and they all give space.
I recall back when they had spring hunts, older sows you could see their tits sagging and little hairless since they are nursing, not always, but something to look for. Without bait stations, you may have seconds to make a judgment call and that is tough without any obvious exclusions. Bears move pretty quick and in the fall, they are on the move 24/7 getting fat for winter.
Fuzzy looking bears are usually younger imo, almost look like a fur ball with large ears, one that looks sleeker with almost indiscernible ears is likely a nice bear to look over real good. Long hair imo is smaller bear, short appearing hair/small ears, look it over real good if you have time.
I knew a guide that bears where his specialty, called me his "step son" lol (RIP), he even said it can be tough 2be 100% sure (without exclusions), but experience helps, that man took a load of bears over the years.
Probably noit the info you need, but what I have
