Guys,

I bought a Seekins 300 win mag a few weeks ago. I've worked up one load with Partitions 200 grains for strictly hunting but I want to work up another load for target and hunting. I'm looking at 208 Gr Hornady ELD and 210 Gr Berger VLDs.

What's the best powder/s for these bullets?

Thanks

Mel

I would start with the powder that worked with the 200 gr Partition.

Im running H-1000 and the 210 VLD-H at 2910fps. The 215 are hard to get and I had better accuracy with the 210.
Dstroud makes a good point. What are you using with the 200gr?

.300 Win Mag> H-1000

7 Rem Mag> H-Retumbo

Each of those are like Peanut butter and jelly.

And your 208 ELD, and 210 VLD are both awesome bullets. I will go to Hornady first. Just my personal policy.

Yup. Gonna be like wielding Thor's Hammer. Woe to whatever animal you draw down on with that 300.

Guys,

Thanks for your recommendations! I’ve worked up two loads for it now.

The first was Nosler 200gr Partitions, Nosler brass, fed mag primers, 78grs h1000

The second is Hornady 208gr ELD Match, Nosler Brad’s, fed mag primers, 78grs h1000

The 200 partitions is for a specific hunt which recommended partitions. I wanted to load the ELD Match bullets because the partitions are more than twice as expensive as the ELDs and the ELDs have a much better B.C. I need to practice with it quite a bit. Part of the practice will include long range out to at least 1k. If things are going well I will definitely take it longer.

Below is a pic of the results with 78 grains of h1000 for the ELD Match 208 gr bullets. As you can see one of the four is low....that was on me. Ugh, anticipation, which is another reason for more practice. This rifle is outstanding and while I can shoot it with no ill effects to my neck so far it does have more recoil than my 6.5 CMs and I caught myself anticipating the recoil a couple of times. Gotta practice enough to get past this.

Calling the shot> where was the reticle when the shot broke? If that low one was you, all is well. You messed it up, and you called it, and that happens, it is alright.

At least you know your rifle/scope/ammo is solid. up
