When you set your timers now- till the time change, what do you set your clock time at and your throw times at? at current or back an hour?

I get so confused. I like the timer to throw at 4pm and 7am

I set the clock for it to be correct during hunting season and never touch it. Throw once at 7am and once at 530pm. Makes for weird feeding times in the summer, the deer don’t complain. Amount of time you throw for depends on your deer population.

I'm waiting on someone to make a timer that adjusts daily for time to keep feeder feeding 10 minutes after day break or whatever.....

Run at 7am and 7pm right now. Will adjust for bow season and rifle season as the sunrise / sunset times. I use the Sunrise / Sunset App It will give you today or future first light, sunrise, sunset and last light times for the area you want to know about. Just looked at mine and as an example, first light on opening day of bow season is 7:01am. Gun opener November 3rd 7:28am It accounts for daylight savings time as well.

There's a couple, I can find the names, one is what comes with Alamo Feeders... It's a setting, either on or off, but auto adjust. I want them to throw right after LST in the morning, and an hour before LST in the evening... so I adjust them throughout the year to stay close to that; a few heavy traffic areas, we'll feed twice in the morning and evening too

Geotimer was made by SSI in Austin is the one I bought in 2003. They made it for a while before I bought any of them. It was programmable like a standard timer with 6 time settings IIRC. The second option of the Geotimer was self adjusting to sunrise and sunset itself. If you wanted the feeder for example to go off 20 minutes before sunrise, 38 minutes after sunrise, 1 hr 21 minutes before dark and 6 minutes before sundown you could set it to do that. You could select any option you wanted 24 hrs a day. You could set the runtime up to 60 seconds for each feed time. You could set the run time for each feed time differently. Once you set the feed times of the Geotimer to go off in reference to sunrise or sunset you never touched it after that. It self adjusted year round to sunrise and sunset. I ran over 30 of them on a ranch in timered protein feeders(running them at night) and corn feeders. IIRC the Geotimer had a 3rd option for sunrise and sunset like the old style solar feeders. So you could set it 3 different ways. The deer were showing up at the same times you chose in the mornings and evenings everyday.

I adjust the timer every time I fill the feeder, it only takes a few seconds, it is the easiest chore at the feeder. The first filling after daylight time I adjust the clock then. I have all The Timers and a few are horrible at keeping good time, I am off several minutes a month, so adjusting the clock is part of the routine, not even a minute to do this.
The auto adjusting type I have tried but did not like the results. Using its photo cell it was to adjust the time automatically, it never got it right and I never knew the time.
You would think technology would allow for you to enter your zip code, set for 30 minutes before sunrise, one hour before sunset, then set your run time and let it go. It is only a matter of a little memory.
Is there something out there like that?

Your feeder timer doesn’t adjust the clock for DST so set it at the time you want it going off and don’t worry about it till after DST occurs. The time on the timer may be off but it’s still throwing at the exact same time as far as the deer know.

You don't want the feeder going off before you get there! Or after dark.

Obviously, but DST has nothing to do with that. Adjustments need to be made from now up until the start of the season but when DST actually occurs, the feeder is going off at the same time it was the day before as far as the deer are concerned. Just need to bump the time next time you are out and adjust the feed time then.

I set mine for the time I want it throwing corn during the season, and leave it that way all year. Was once told, the Deer don't carry a watch.

^^^^this...my feeder is both gravity and mechanical so they can eat anytime they want anyway.

I like for the feeder to go off before daylight and after sundown during DST.

Why feed after sundown, just being benevolent?

since i may hunt during the spring summer i want my feeders to go off at day break and an hour before sunset........ those are the time you see the most movement... if you feed at 4:30 now most of the corn is going to be eaten by birds, squirrel and such dont be lazy just change the timer 2x a year

The deer don't seem to feed till late in the day and then after sundown. Feeding to early just gives the squirrels and coons more time to clean up the corn.

Feeding after dark though, you pretty much train them not to come in until after you can't shoot? All you need is one nice one to venture in just before sundown to make your season. Now if you don't hunt in the afternoon, I guess it doesn't matter.

Days,time or what every mean squat. Set the feeder and the deer will come to it. All they care about is the feed.

This time of year when it is so hot and days are long, most deer movement is real early and late. I have my timer set for 6:00 am and 8:30 pm.
My take is I want to throw as close to their movement time as possible. If you throw to late on these hot mornings your mainly feeding the birds and squirrels for most deer have already browsed and bed down, in the evening if you throw to early the birds and squirrels will have already feasted on it before the deer get a shot at it unless you are throwing a bunch of corn down.

Yep. Deer are hitting our free choice protein feeders between 9:30pm and 4am. Rare to see any pics of them when it's daylight.

Right now, mine are set to feed at 7:00 A.M and 5:30 P.M. Couple weeks before season opener, I will set to feed at first light+ 20 minutes and last light-1 hour.
