If the liveoaks in my yard are any indication there will be a bumper crop in the Stephenville area. Last time the trees in the yard had this many we couldn't keep the hogs out.

I am finally seeing some in my area of Western Goliad county for the first time since 2012 and 2013. I am not seeing every Live Oak with them right now and most are very small. Going to be great for wildlife but make hunting actually hunting and not sitting over a feeder this year. Luckily I have been working on the hog numbers for the past 6 yrs now and have the numbers down at this point.

Last year, here in Palo Pinto county, there were so many acorns, the deer wouldn't eat any corn. I am not seeing hardly any this year, been too darn dry.

But I am not near as concerned about the number of deer at feeders, we will get them sooner or later. We lost 5 mature bucks because of last years acorn gorge. The biologist told us to feed alfalfa heavy this year and try to keep them from killing themselves.

Got tons in Montgomery/Grimes county near Richards, and tons in Cass county north of linden.

Yep. I lost two really good ones. A 3 yr old 187 and a 2 yr old 150's.
And yes, I'm feeding lots of alfalfa this year.

Those gallotannins cause problems for sure. I know firsthand from 1992 then also a couple of back to back years not to long ago. When acorns are 50% or more of the diet it becomes an issue. I like to see some acorns every year not long periods without them, then a huge year is where the problem starts.

Yep I don't know if I could have saved them last year because I kept alfalfa and peanut hay out all fall/winter after I stopped protein. Lost a yearling buck as well. That one bigger buck I hated to lose. I had marked him to let live several more years.

I've heard of cattle getting sick but darn, I wasn't aware that acorns would kill deer. We usually have a boatload. That could explain our low density.
