Rifle is shooting low and left.

I, say put the cross hairs in point of aim and adjust them to the point of impact.

2Beez says to put the cross hairs on point of impact and adjust to point of aim.

What’s the THF brain trust say?

Use your reticle to measure how many MILs or MOA of correction you need, then dial it in the scope. Can't do that with a plex reticle though.

The question asked was which way to dial turrets if it is low and left. Zeroing a thermal is a backwards process sometimes and he wanted to make sure he had it right with which way to dial the scope. Yes, both methods work you jackass and either or we said the same thing.

Impact low .8 Mil, left .5 Mil

Dial up .8, right .5 shoot. All good? Loosen the turret screws, turret in neutral, rotate to "0", tighten the screws.

Let's think about this.

The gun is fired with the cross hairs on the target. The bullet doesn't hit the target but hits low and to the left. The bullet hit the actual aim point for the rifle when it was fired and not the aim point of the scope. Therefore, the aim point of the scope must be aligned with the aim point of the rifle. After doing this, the scope is now pointing low and to the left. In order to correct this, the rifle must be correctly repositioned to bring the scope (and aim point of the rifle) back on the target.

You are correct.

You idiots do realize it is backwards compatible right? Either one works and it works the same way. There was a question about which way the turrets work and it went down hill from there. I am not saying BP is wrong because he is not. We need to keep these terms simple.

If you're wanting to make the scope go to the POI, you will have to have a rifle in a vice, and completely immovable. Most people cannot produce that, I can't, because I use the other method which is faster, and requires less equipment.

On bore sighting things are opposite. If the scope is looking low, dial impact down.

If you do #1, which you will put cross hairs on target and move to point of impact. By doing this you will duplicate exactly what you had previously except it will be double the distance away from target in the same direction, lower left.

If you do #2, you will put cross hairs on impact and adjust to where target is where you were aiming previously, doing this you will be canceling/reversing the low and left and impact will then be on target, higher right.

scratch

Naa, It is exactly opposite because I was trying to move the barrel which was stationary with the scope movement. #1 is correct.
Had to think about my night vision adjustment.

This will make the rifle shoot even lower and further to the left. Here's why.

When the rifle was originally fired, the aim point of the scope and the rifle were obviously not in alignment. The aim point of the rifle barrel was low and to the left of that of the scope. Moving the rifle to the point of impact BEFORE adjusting the scope moves the axis of the rifle even lower and further to the left. If adjustments are made at this point, they are backwards to the direction the scope axis should be moved to bring the scope axis and barrel axis in alignment.

Yup. You'd be doubling the initial error.

I know that's right. But group texts will make me want to throw the phone as far as possible. There have been some, I asked to remove me, and my wife chimes in "please excuse my curmudgeon of a husband".

Yea, I have to turn notifications off for this group when I go to bed otherwise my phone will end up vibrating it self off the table.

Problem is, the rest of the group stops talking at 1am, and then I’m left there alone, with nobody to talk to crying
