Just not enough room! I'll keep it brief and to the point, we hunt most of our gators on private property, which has its advantages, bigger gators, no other hunters, and no game wardens to hassle you, we usually scout through the summer keeping up with the movement of the larger bulls, this particular gator was taken coming into a bait with no hook, the bait was used as a decoy and worked great, he swam within ten feet of my ground blind! Retrieval can be tricky, if you make a bad shot and miss the brain one of several bad things can happen, the gator recovers and heads for china or just goes to the bottom and comes up next year! Either way you have your work cut out for you in the water, if you make a good brain shot the gator dies right there, and retrieval is relatively easy with hooks if he sinks, and the big boys always sink.
Alligator hunting done right is one of the most unique adventures left in our country, give it a try. rifle

I’ve caught a few but we caught them alive so we could take them a few hours away to keep them fresh.

The jawl meat is far the best on the gator, flash fried, dipped in honey mustard sauce, outstanding.

That would be cool. Sapper you're pretty young in that gator pic. Your Dad was barefoot? Wow.

What counties? I am interested to see how far North along the trinity people have hunted alligators. They are normally in the news all the way up to DFW along the Trinity, wonder if you could hunt them from private along the Trinity not too far South of DFW?

Man, I would absolutely LOVE to go on an alligator hunt! What do you do with the hide? I'm sure you keep all the skulls, right?
That's what I really want...a big headed skull with BIG pearly white teeth, lol. Of course I'd eat the rest of him.

Mmmm Hmmm

Make sure your hooks and tackle are in top notch condition and don't under estimate the power and speed of these dinosaurs! Take your time and don't
rush things, most of the negative issues I hear about are usually from guys getting into a hurry, take your time and be prepared and methodical, one mistake and bad things can happen.
Make sure you understand the regulations in the county your tag is issued for, game wardens have a complete different thought process than everyone else.
Make sure he is dead, before boarding! The best spot is where the soft skin meets the hard bone on the top of the skull, a bullet placed there does it everytime.
Bring lots of ice and either burlap sacks or old towels to keep your gator wet and cool, a gator can spoil within an hour in the heat.
Have fun.
