Besides the A.I.

Which "hot" .22 centerfire will fit my short 700 action, .223 boltface?

You're really asking this question?

Did you start drinking at 0700, or still have not quit since last night?

Do a 20, lot more options and a lot more fun wink

20 Practical would be hard to beat since you have all the .223 stuff but I'd probably do a Vartarg. I've never heard anyone wish they didn't have one after they did one.

You looking for a rechamber or a rebarrel?

If a rechamber, you could go with a .222 Mag which won't get you much over an .223AI. If you want to rebarrel, you could go with a 6X45, or any of the TCU cartridges.

If you just want some excitement, try 1/7 twist 223 with 22 Hornet light weight bullets.

It's kinda like drunken lawn darts...you never know where it will land after it sheds the jacket a few feet in front of barrel.

In 22 caliber fitting that bolt face 22 Nosler would be about as “hot”as you could go.
22/204 Ruger would be close to that.
Unless it was a prairie dog gun I would stay with 22 instead of 20 cal just so many more bullets to chose from.

The 6x45mm suggestion was a great one as that’s easy to load and lots of bullet choices

I know you asked about a hot .22 but seeings as the 6x5 was mentioned, I'll throw this out. The 25-45 Sharps would fit the bill. I built an AR but the case is a simple necked up .223 case to .257.

22 Nosler https://www.nosler.com/22-nosler/
Will fit the 223 bolt.
If you open the bolt face to 308 (about $250) you can get some real screamers.

It's been 8 hours, Buzz has already moved on to the next idea.

Oh and the load data this barrel likes. Well, used to like before it got unscrewed. Why I ever thought I'd use it, I'll never know
