So I was heading back from camping today and stopped in the grocery store for a few things. I don't usually open carry, but I had my Remington Rand 1911 on my hip. An elderly gentleman flagged me down, "Holy cow! I haven't seen one of those in 50 years!". So, would you carry a 75 year old gun? I have other options, this just happened to be on me at the time.

I have a parkerized Remington Rand, that works perfectly fine. It stays in the safe, because I also have a Springfield Operator.

If it goes "BANG" every time I pull the trigger, I don't care how old it is!

I'm thinking it's as or more reliable than today's 1911's. Craftsmanship of today is not always as good as yesteryear's. Heavy tho ain't it?

I inherited a S&W 38 from ‘64 and it puts them exactly where I aim it. Super smooth wheel gun that is simple stupid to operate. It’s my favorite pistol to shoot, only a bit bulky for me to conceal. It would be the perfect choice for a woman to have in her purse though. So yeah... If you like it, I say go for it.

Just a guess there are more people dead in the dirt by 1911’s than all others pistols added together. Hard even to think of what might be in second place. I was thinking a Russian WW2 pistol, but even they had some 1911’s we supplied. Nice post.

It goes bang every time. My dad, may he rest in peace, traded a Brama calf for it back in '73. When I exited the Marine Corps in '92, I was about to get married and bought a house we could afford, in a kinda' sketchy part of town. Dad gave me the 1911 as a house warming gift. Just a little back story.

I probably wouldn't carry that gun but I can't say that for sure, I've done crazier things. I have a pistol that is over 100 years old, it's a Browning 1900. I don't carry it mainly because it's in 32 acp and extra magazines aren't available for it (that I know of). Your gun is different because it's in a decent caliber and parts can still be replaced on it. I have a Browning/Winchester High Wall from the 1890s that I wont shoot. It's just not worth the hassle. I can buy an Italian-made replica that would be cheaper and safer to shoot if I wanted to shoot that type of gun, I just haven't got around to it yet.

I like old old guns, were it not for the size I'd probably carry my old 4 inch model 19 instead of the Sig 239. I'd carry anyone of my old Hi-Powers and not think twice.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Carrying something, no matter how old, is ALWAYS better than carrying nothing...

I wouldn't carry a vintage gun. That's just me.
