Thing is huge and just showed up. Vet came back in town today and judging by his face and mannerisms, this might not be good. Took sample and sent to lab... we should know early next week.

Y'all ever seen one pop up in about a weeks time?

My lab has one that must weigh 10 pounds. The vet says it is just a fatty tumor and could actually do more harm trying to remove it.

She has a tumor on her left ear flap that looks like a chicken heart and was what we were originally going to go get looked at and taken off. It has come on quick as well and she keeps busting it open when she scratches it. She also has another new one starting on her other ear. This big lump came on real quick as well. The vet also found another blue tumor on her back leg that looks like a pencil eraser. I have been doing a lot of reading last night and it’s looking like mast cell tumors. This dog has unbelievable allergy problems as well and it looks like that goes hand in hand with MST’s. Really hoping it’s not the case, but it doesn’t look good.

I've never seen one grow that fast, and would still think the large lump could be a different make up than the others.
My Lucy that I believe was the same breeding, but different litter had sarcoma. Hers was on the skin, very tiny (1/4 the size of a pencil eraser), and removed at 2 1/2 years old. Even with clean margins, the vet said one day it would return. At 6 years she developed a small mammary tumor. The vet said to spay her first, after she healed from the spay we would do a second surgery for the tumor. We lost her 10 days after the spay, due to a bad reaction to rimadyl.

Thank you for the kind words Kindall. Unfortunately, the news is not good. Doc said the tumors are mast cell and they have metastasized. The big one on on her neck is from her prescapular lymph node.

She will have the lump on ear removed and stitched up on Wednesday. Then she will be put on steroids, Benadryl and one other Med he mentioned to try and give her the most comfortable life she has left. My 12 yr old daughter is heartbroken as Kinzie is her best friend.

Chris, I know you have Kinzies brother, so please watch him close for any signs of small tumors on the skin. As Kindall mentioned above her Lucy also had cancer and passed at age 6 and is from the same breeding... not sure if this kind of thing is in their genes or not, but it sure seems so.

Sorry to hear this Greg. How old is your dog? I would let the breeder know as well.

Appreciate the kind words Bobby and Guy. She is only 5. Sweetest dog and best temperament ever... she’s smart and has incredible drive. An absolute mess health wise. Allergies have been a major issue from the start requiring daily meds and injections every two weeks. Hasn’t been cheap.

I don’t know how to get a hold of the breeder any longer. He was a nice guy who used to post on here a lot. I’m hoping he and others on here who have siblings of hers see this post so they can know about it and watch their dogs closely. That’s the reason for my post.

I know a generation or two back, they were not seeing cancer in this bloodline.
Mother Nature just sucks. These dogs had the best temperament, and drive in the field of any I have seen. Then they are taken from us way to soon.

Sorry to hear about this. I have an older dog that has had those tumors on him for about 3-4 years. They are gross, they bleed especially when he hunts. Hopefully you will get several more good years out of your dog like I have out of mine.
