Looking to get a 22 pistol to carry on the lease for snakes and just general plinking. Looking for recommendations. The Smith & Wesson SW22 Victory caught my eye and I知 going to hold one tonight, but was curious if there were any others to consider while I知 there. Also curious if anyone here has one and if they like it or not. Thanks in advance!

The M&P 22 is very nice, and also makes a nice practice pistol for something that feels and operates like a typically EDC pistol. It needs to be cleaned about every 500 rounds or so for reliable operation.
Having said that, for snakes, carry a 9 or 45 with the CCI shotshells. Way easier to make a good hit in a hurry.

I'm partial to S&W revolvers. 8 rounds in the cylinder is handy and they are fun to shoot.

Seems silly that a Buckmark or MKIII/IV aren't at the top of the list. Highly accurate, reliable, easily modified for RMRs/Suppessors/etc, and more rounds than a revolver.

Haven't handled the Ruger Mark IV, but I have owned the Is and IIs. The III has features I don't care for. I can sure recommend the Mark II. You should be able to pick one up used at a reasonable price. I prefer the 5.5 inch bull barrel models.

The SW22 Victory I知 looking at is a similar gun to the Buckmark and Mark IV, just a cheaper price as it is on sale for $299 at Academy. I知 going to look at all 3 of those while I知 there for sure. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Auto, browning buck mark and the ruger mark iv are as good as it gets. Revolver a little single six is a awesome little pea shooter.

I don't own one, but a older fella had a Ruger SR22 at the range a while back and let me shoot it. It felt great and he highly praised it. I'd buy one.

The Ruger Single Six is hard to beat. Yep. It is one of those firearms every American needs to own. I have one with .22lr and .22 Mag cylinders. I do want a Ruger MK IV, but that doesnt mean I'm getting rid of my Single Six.

Call me crazy but I kinda like the Heritage .22 revolver I have. I have other more expensive models but there is something about the SA six shooter.

The single six with both cylinders is pretty much perfection in my eyes. I also have a P22 & 22/45. The 22/45 is a great trainer. The P22 is fun to carry and puts down the occasional animal.

Heritage and Ruger single 6 with .22mag and .22 lr cylinders are both great guns. I'd do one of the ruger models if you HAD to have a semiauto.

S&W 617. 10 shots, will never ftf or fte. I've had three different auto loaders, you never know when that ftf will come up due to needing a cleaning. That's my 617 on the bottom, I added a fibre optic sight. They were all accurate, but this 617 is by far the most accurate of the any .22 I've had, and ain't pissy about the ammo. Shoots anything.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I have one of the Ruger MK IV Target models. It's a shootin' fool, but not much fun as a walking around gun; too darned heavy. I'm trying to sell it and get one of the MK IV Tacticals or a MK IV 22/45 Lite.

Got my mom a Ruger SR 22 and I borrow it every time I go to the lease. I know I shoot it more than she does. It's a fun little gun and shoots well. It has a safety which also functions as a decocker, which is nice for the inexperienced shooters that may handle it when we are out and about or plinking at the lease.

I have a Mark II bull and a Buckmark. I used to have a Single 6 and traded it off like a dumba**!!!
All 3 are fine pistols for your needs. To me, the Victory grips need more meat towards the butt. Personal preference for my big mitts, though...

Held a lot of the guns today. Decided to stick with my original choice the SW22. The heritage revolver I didn't like because of the sights, and considering they go on sale for $100-120 frequently I couldn't justify spending $180 on it. I decided not to go with the single six mainly because of cost, although the next 22 I get will likely be one. I held the Mark IV Lite and it was just way too light for my liking. They also had a Mark III, but it was used and was priced way too high. Normal Mark IV felt good, but did not like the look of the barrel personally on the standard model. The Victory felt perfect in my hand and I personally like the sights that come with it so that sealed the deal. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to ship to the store! Thanks everyone for the advice, I held as many of the pistols that were mentioned on here that were in stock at the store giving me a variety of options to choose from.

I grew up on a High Standard Dura-Matic M101. I don't know how many thousands of rounds I ran through that pistol, but I kept it clean and it always performed. I never paid attention to ammo, just bought what was available. That gun just always ran.
I traded it off for some reason and the only .22 I had for a while was a Sig P226 conversion kit. It is quite accurate, but very ammo sensitive for reliability. It doesn't bother me much, because I know the CCI 40gr HV rounds run like a champ. However, there are many rounds that just won't cycle the slide.
IF I had to depend on a 22LR handgun, it would be a Ruger revolver without a doubt.
