Brian and I headed to Bosque Co. this week. The primary objective was to discuss possible locations to setup a 30 gallon feeder on the North area of the property (opposite the oats field where we’ve eliminated 50+ pigs in the last 6 weeks).

After receiving guidance and direction from the Landowner we scouted the area and decided to place the feeder and a game cam near a watering hole. Within an hour we had established a Hog Eradication Feeding Station, marked clearly with appropriate Carpe Sus identification (Pig face). We identified a shooting perch approximately 70 yards away in an elevated position which should allow for safe shooting considering local shelters and ranch animals. Feeder programmed to drop Golden goodness only during the night to maximize visiting from nocturnal porkers. It’s possible there are a few large hogs on this side of the property , stay tuned for more in the coming weeks.

As sweat engulfed our eyeballs and the sun began to hunt the horizon we made plans to hunt the harvested oats field at the South border of the property. The first hour was slow and we began to wonder if the gig was up at this spot. We moved to a central observation point and shortly thereafter DNS gave the signal that a sounder was inbound. We eagerly made our approach and designed a plan to pop some pigs. DNS targeted the largest hog and I aimed to not miss one of the smaller hogs. We took 3 from this group and revoked their morning buffet privledges! One pig took extra shots (video didn’t initiate soon enough to catch the follow up shots) as he must have had more investment in the Bad Khama bank.

After collecting these 3 we returned to our central base of operations and another 45 mins passed with no activities. We were content with the take and began our hike back to the truck when DNS made a clutch spot on another sounder. The wind was right and we slipped into position and released our Grendels on this group of porkers. Two more joined the revoked breakfast buffet list and had experienced their final Texas sunset.

We scooped up the 5 and deposited them in the designated decomposition depot and bid farewell to Bosque County for the evening at nearly the stroke of Midnight.

No doubt that a successful hunt makes the trip home seem to pass quicker and leaves us fulfilled in our Hog Eradication role.

Carpe Sus y’all

Nice write-up! Thank you!

We had a good hunt. I wasn't sure anything would still be turning up two weeks after the oats had been harvested. That we saw two different groups of hogs in the short time we were there is both promising and sobering.

The new location looks really promising as well. We have the feeder set up to only go off in the evenings which is when we will be there. That the location is one of the few ponds in the area and had recent hog tracks in the mud indicates there is significant and already active. Hopefully, the feeder will make it more active.

My buddy and I also erected a hog assassination station this week. It took us much more than an hour, though. I guess we need more experience. We'll just have to do it again a few times and see if we improve. Of course, we also installed a pen to exclude cattle. That took most of the time and effort. Anxious to see what results you guys get, as well as what happens with our new effort.

Hey der Teufel

DNS saved us a bunch of time by pre-installing the supports for the legs, battery box, and pre-programming the gadgets at his house the day before.

We literally had a plug and play install and with the cattle not released on this area we didn’t have to go through building a pen

Your setup looks solid let us know how you get along
