I am leaving here about noon to Axis hunt with a couple of gentlemen from Ruger and my great friend, Larry Weishuhn. We will be hunting west of Garven Store and the temperatures are predicted to be over 100 for the next couple of days.
We will be hunting with Ruger Redhawks topped with Trijicon RMR sights and shooting Hornady 240 grain XTP ammo. They should be roaring so I am planning to try my hand at calling them using primarily the doe barking sounds. While we have them all around here, I have never hunted specifically for an Axis buck as I usually want a fat doe for table fare.
I am sure that we will have a good time in spite of the heat.
Adios,
Gary

Good luck! I'm interested to hear how the calling goes.

Have heard Axis and heard about people calling them with some success. Should be the right time of year to possibly entice one in. Good luck and have fun.

Good luck!

Those Hornady XTP rounds are deadly on deer. I have used the .44 caliber 240 grain bullets in a .44 mag as well as saboted in a muzzleloader. Killed a literal ton of deer with them. I now use them in my .45 colt (the 250 grain version) and haven't had the opportunity to take a deer with them yet, but I have killed a couple of hogs with them.
