Most of my rifles (multiple calibers and several twins) are synthetic and I view them as tools more than heirlooms. There is no sentimental value in any of them.

What would be a modern production heirloom rifle that you would hand down through the generations?

You'll get lots of different responses, but I'd say Model 70 first.

Montana Rifle Company, which is a copy of the pre-64 Model 70 with improvements to safety and better accuracy.

It is accurate and ready to go right out of the box.

I'd have to agree on the Model 70 or the Montana Rifle Co. I'd also pick a 'standard' type of cartridge; 243, 270, 308 etc.

The rifle that you have used well, possibly with them along
on a hunt will be the true "heir"loom that your heirs will treasure.
So if you buy something new & shiny be sure to get it bloody
and the shine rubbed off.

I feel the same way. But, my dad just bought this to be given to my grandson someday:

If your looking at a heirloom rifle, I would be thinking Mauser 98, Rigby highland stalker, sako 85 with good wood, high grade Mark V Weatherby, Sauer, or something along those lines

If you want a lever gun then a turnbull in a 1885

No doubt you will have a fine $40,000 gun in mind. Most of the advice above is realistically in peopleís reach. For me itís my grandfathers falling block 22.

I really do think the rifle(s) you use and take game with are the best heirlooms.

As far as a nice, traditional wood-stocked rifle under 3K (just picked that for grins) I like Sakos. But a nice MRC, Nosler, Winchester 70, or Weatherby would be nice too. Just my 2 cents.

A nice pre-64 lever action would fit the bill also. Or a Turnbull pre-64 restoration (may be more than 3K). I wouldnít want a levergun for a heirloom that isnít a pre-64 Winchester. Again, thatís just me.

so you don't buy something to be a heirloom. you pass and your family picks something they saw ya use and enjoy and they then pass that item along and it becomes an heirloom otherwise its just something you collected

i am cancelling my subscription, i am tired of your issues!

Sako 85. Hand pick the wood. Winchester model 70 super grade. You won't need to pick the wood. The Super Grade 70 will probably be a little nicer to look at. The Sako will probably be a little nicer to shoot. Both will be sweet.

My Anschutz 1710 DKL Euro Luxux is definitely what I consider a heirloom rifle

Budget wise, definitely a price tag south of five figures.
