After eating oatmeal and blueberries every week Monday through Friday, I look forward to my cholesterol fix weekend breakfast grin
Steak and eggs with Miss Paulines smoking hot salsa, Japs, toast with home made plum jelly. Off to a good start

I have had this cast iron skillet for a long time, seasoned it last week and broke it in this morning, I like it up

Question for those who cook with cast iron, after cooking I just wiped it down with just a little Olive Oil and put it away, is that about right?

I’d tare that up! I’m a big fan of cast iron. To your question - I’ve used veg oil, corn oil, olive oil, Pam, used lard for years but it DOES go rancid if not used for a few months...but out of everything I’ve used bacon grease is the best IMO. I always save bacon grease. It doesn’t go rancid as fast as lard and nothing like bacon to season with. Just use warm water (NO SOAP) and a washrag to clean, if food is cooked on boil it or soak, or both. Just don’t use anything too abrasive so to not scratch off your seasoning. Put wet pan back on fire medium heat until water is gone and pan just starts to smoke. Drop a little bacon grease in and whipe out with paper towel. Done.

Wasting money on the olive oil, plus it will turn brown and sticky. Lard or nothing. It won’t need anything once seasoned, just wash with hot water and dry well.

Wash the oil off w hot soapy water. Heat the skillet to dry it well. Lightly coat w lard while warm and then get it hot. It’ll smoke a little. When it turns black it’s seasoned. Wash only w hot water and dry well. That’s all. Now usage will keep it seasoned.

Before i read your comments, I wiped as much of the Olive Oil out with paper towels as I could, ran it under hot water then dried it with a cloth.
Put some Crisco lard in it wiped it all around heated it up until the skillet was lightly smoking.

Rinsed it warm water, dried with cloth added a little heat and put that pig away up

After they are seasoned we just hand wash, rinse and dry.

I love my cast iron. Have 6 skillets from 14" down to a little 5" skillet, and two Dutch ovens. Wash with warm water. No soap ever once seasoned. Heat up to dry, and wipe down with a little oil...or lard if you are hard headed. 😁 If you have one that is well seasoned, it is more non stick than non stick cookware.

Not at all. Your BG is just seasoned lard. I use the lard to season then BG to cook with 99% of the time. So we actually do the same. I was just covering the seasoning step. I wouldn’t season a skillet with BG, it takes too much and it’s too valuable. So lard or nothing to season new stuff. Better?

Stub, Crisco is not lard. It’s vegetable fat and sticky brown stuff will result. Get a bucket of real lard at most groceries stores.

The bacon & Eggs seem to taste better/ have more flavor cooked in the cast iron VS. the non stick.

Nothing fancy just tasty.

Dry piece of toast for sopping.

I might have grown taller since I installed it. Back porch, hot as heck, no breeze so I spun it up on the other end of the deck and forgot about it. Later I walked down there and under the edge of the fan blade and damn near got scalped. Backed up quick, no blood.

Looks good Stub! I agree food does taste better. Got to thinking about it and counted my cast iron, I’m up to 18 pieces now lol, I think I’m an addict. They all serve their purpose though.
