What were some of the simple things you did growing up that kids these days do not have a clue about and are missing out on?
The Terrance Williams video wiping out on an electric bike made me think of this one.

I can think of a whole lot of things but am going with popping wheelies on your bicycle, I am going to challenge Terrance to a contest rofl

Ride my bike or walk to the gravel pits and fish from sunup to sundown.
Catch or dig my own bait on the way up

Riding my bike or 3 wheeler to the river and fishing every day.

Playing baseball/football in an empty lot in the neighborhood with enough kids for full squads.

I grew up 18 miles east of the Empire state building and the former Twin towers in NJ. From the time I was 15 my dad allowed me to take my beagle and my trusty Remington single shot 410 and walk down to the Jersey meadows where Giants stadium now stands. It was a 2 mile walk through the most dense urban population in our nation. 15 blocks of one house after another on 50 x 100 lots. That's right a 15 year old walking the streets of one of the most progressive states in the nation with a single shot weapon of war. The scary part I was often stopped by the local police on my way home asking how many pheasants and rabbits I had bagged. This went on at least 10 times a year until I was 17 and drove to that honey hole. Now I consider this to be a long lost wonderful experience for our future children and grand children To assist the non believers it was 1963- 1965 just after the Bill of Rights was signed into law by our founders.

Jeez, I did all the above, some were good things, some were bad. To show you how old I am

we built "mini bikes" and rode them on LBJ @ Preston while 635 was being built. There was only a Sears where Valley View Mall is/was.

1. shot rats where the old EDS building was on Forest Lane
2. noodled catfish in the creek that still runs through the area
3. we fished the neighborhood pond for perch and bass, the occasional snapping turtle.
4. Shot fireworks in our back yards.
5. two below and tennis ball homerun derby's, I was Mickey Mantle, my neighbor was Roger Marris.
6. raced slot cars
7. swung on swing sets and flew off seeing who could go the furthest.
8. Went to eat at the 2nd Dickeys BBQ and sliced cheese off that 40# block of cheddar.
9. Shot birds in my backyard with my bb gun\, through my Sheridan 20 cal. pellet gun. I still have it.

and the list could go on and on with the injuries and delinquent stuff we did.

Wow! That’s pretty much a picture of the changes we have seen in America right there.

The list isn’t way too long.

During the summertime we left the house right after eating breakfast and stayed outside until lunch. We’d eat lunch, cool off a bit and head back outside until super was ready and then head back outside until we’ll past dark. We had no desire to stay in the house unless Speed Racer was on TV.

We rode bikes, went swimming, shot our B.B. guns/bows/slingshots, played sports, built forts, fished for crawdads, looked for coke bottles to return for candy money, and got into s slew of trouble. The good ole days.

Grew up on a dairy farm and had the best childhood a girl could ask for. Fishin in the creeks. Building forts with hay bales up in the barn loft. Riding our bikes. And who can forget catching lightning bug's and putting them in a jar.

Instant flashlight. Hell, I still do that. smile

2 cans attached by a length of string pulled tight making a "telephone".

I'm pretty sure most kids would just roll their eyes at this today.

Shooting fireworks in the back yard. Nobody cared because we all did it.
Jumping off the roof of the house using a sheet as a parachute. That didn't work out so well.

Football. Instead of tackle of flag you had to touch the ball carrier with two hands at the same time below the waist to stop the play up
