12:45 she was pestering me for a treat like she always does. An hour later find her on the bed laying next to a pile a vomit. Let her outside and she had the runs and slowly walked back in. She curled up in a ball beside the bed and seemed out of it. Made a phone call and decided to take her in. Had to pry her out of the corner and carry her to the car. Hauled [censored] while she layed motionless in the backseat. Arrived at the vet and carried her in and put her on stretcher thingamajig. They weighed her (a bit heavy) as she just layed there. I did get a wiggle of the tail and a small glance from her at one point. They got a game plan and did all kinds of tests and got her on fluids, drained some fluids, and gave her some pain meds and tried to get her temp down. They think it is peritonitus. She is now in surgery. I did not need this bill right now but I just want my pup better. frown This one has me worried. frown

Good job getting to the vet quickly. Something she ate maybe?

Just got a call from the vet. Was done with surgery around 5:10 and she was just waking up. Her abdomen was full of pus. He said the uterus had two horns, one was fine and the other was enlarged/mishaped or something. He would show us when we go to transport her. Still going to be touchy over the next few days. They removed the trach tube and she's not too responsive as she is on heavy pain meds and antibiotics but she is slowly waking up and stable at this time.

I don'think so. She didnt even get her late night treat as that is when I found her on the bed.

We did take her in last week as she wasn't feeling well and they gave her some shots (antibiotic and anti-inflammatory) and some pills for what they think was a bacterial infection. She was pretty much back to her normal self a few days later. Vet did say that if she wasn't better by Monday (tonight) to let him know. Then this happened.

Just got done transporting her to the normal vet and getting her settled in for observation/antibiotics.

Little more on what it is...Pyometra/peritonitis....basically her uterus filled with pus and ruptured filling her belly.
Her uterus is supposed to be about the size of a hot dog....it is more like a 3# package of sausages.

What is throwing the vets off is that when she was in there last week for not feeling good her white blood count was normal (12k). Last night it was just a little low (8k). Normally when this happens it is very high (40k).

A couple of what I hope are good signs...

I thought I was going to carry her to the truck, they walked her out.

I was going to put her towards the back hatch of the truck on a clean sheet, she went right to her normal spot up against the back passenger seat.

Got a voicemail from the vet and called back. He said she isn't really responsive, has some fluid build up and seems to be in a lot of pain. He gave her some more narcotics.
Broke my heart when the vet said that she might not pull through. frown

We are devastated. frown

So very sorry for your family's loss.
Go ahead, and post last seasons pictures.
I'm sure you have a lot of good memories of her.

both of my Pups will be two years old this coming July. Reading this just makes reality sink in that you don't get to spend your entire life with this animal. These animals worship the very ground that we walk on, and love pleasing us everyday. It makes my heart very sad to think that my Boys won't be with me forever. I've trained multiple types of rabbit dogs, but these are my first Labradors to train myself. It just amazes me the bond that they create with you in a very short amount of time. I know everyone here knows the bond that I'm talking about. They are pumped up to go duck hunting at 3 am and don't even complain about it. They just wake up wagging their tails excited to go hunting with dad or mom waiting at the door ready to go. It makes a person really appreciate the love that they show us on a daily basis. I'm sorry for your loss. Sorry for the long read.
