I knocked down this young 'yote back in February. (He fell victim to my 6mmPPC with a 58grain Hornady VMAX as seen in the last picture) When I took him to the boneyard I noticed that he had some really nice, white, unbroken teeth. So I separated his head from the rest of him and placed it on an ant mound. I put a wire cage over it and anchored the cage with tent stakes so critters other than ants would leave it alone. By the first of March the ants had pretty well done their work, so I took the skull and boiled it for about 2 hours. Next I soaked it in a mild bleach solution for a couple of days. Rinsed off the bleach, put some water in the bucket and added a bit of blue food coloring, then put the skull back in for another couple of days. These are pics of the finished product, which I kinda like. I asked my wife where I should put it, and her suggestion, if followed, make it very difficult for me to walk. I don't know where her sense of humor has gone.

I like. In the photos, it looks more black than blue. Does the blue food color turn it black?

It wound up making it look gray, light blue, and some areas almost black. All the shades of colors must be caused by a difference in the porosity of the various areas of the skull. I didn't want it "bright white," or the kinda yellowish-white that I sometimes get in the bleaching process.
