Pig_Popper and I returned to Bosque County and to the oats. The oats are reaching maturity and starting to dry out. I believe growth has stopped and they are now knee to thigh high. This is making it hard to spot the hogs that are getting smaller and smaller as each week goes by, LOL. If it wasn't for Pig_Popper's studied eye seeing tiny flashes in his thermal scope of hogs more than 370 yards distant, we might have missed an excellent opportunity.

The oats are getting crunchy and loud to walk through. We had the benefit of some road noise to help hide the sound of our movement and approached the last 30 yards or so with our sound covered passing train. We conferred on who was shooting what/where during the last of the train noise and then commenced to shooting...

You’d think I had a binary trigger in my rifle based on my rate of fire ...

They say pigs are intelligent and I’d have to agree because they ran my way - they somehow sensed their chances of survival would be greater going my way because Double Naught Spy certainly hits his mark given the opportunity!

I’m like a Butcher and DNS is more of a Surgeon but teamwork yielded more dead pigs for the land owner so I’d say we do make a good team!

Good work, you guys! I can't imagine how much damage these darned things would be doing to the owner's crop if it weren't for your efforts. I hope these owners reward your efforts well in some way, shape or form.

mikei, hogs as well as other animals will tend to eat about 3% of their body weight per day as adults, and more like 5% as juveniles. If a 200 lb hog is given free reign in a field of grain, he can eat several pounds in a night by himself. That is on top of any other damage being done elsewhere, rooting, etc. At last count, Pig_Popper and I have taken 33 hogs from this property since early April, usually going once a week. Now, we can't see a lot of the hogs when we are hunting because they are hidden by the oats, so we have mostly taken larger hogs. I am going to be conservative and say the average size is 150 lbs. We have had a lot around 200 and one that was 270 and one that was 300 lbs. We have had some smalls as well, but you get the idea. In short, we have killed nearly 2.5 tons of hogs. Those 33 would be eating roughly 149 lbs of food per day (assuming all were adults, conservative estimate) and much of that would be coming from this field. So they could be eating literally hundreds of pounds of grain per week from this field.
