I'm currently looking at a lease in Zapata County. Any info on the quality of deer down there, and maybe how many acres per hunter we should look at having?

Sure, hunted Webb/Zapata county line for 30-35 years. Some really good hunting, can be lots of deer, hogs and varmints. Decent dove too, quail has gone down over the last 20+ years as most places had. With most places, really depends what is surrounding you ranch wise and especially hunting pressure wise. We were a mile to mile and half from the East ranch and within a mile of a large Bruni pasture and our immediate surrounding neighbors seemed to hunt responsibly as well. Was not uncommon for us to see 10-25 deer per sitting, several of those being nice to mature bucks.

If you want to have good hunting for years to come then I would not put more than 1 hunter per 400-500 acres depending on deer density and ratio.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?
