Looking for recommendations on a gunsmith to change sights on a 1911, preferably in Austin, but prefer competent to close.
Thanks.

Kenz Kustoms is ceracoating, doing a trigger job and replacing recoil spring on my 1911...He came highly recommended.

Let me know about Hayes. They are always on the Jerry Miculek's TV show called "Shootout Lane". Clark is in Louisiana and do great 1911's.

Jeff, I was thinking you could use anyone to put sights on because you would just have to mail the slide. Dawson , Brazos Shooting, are a couple more
some of the more popular, lead time might kill you.

Many of Les Baer's dimensions are not milspec, and the notch for the sight is one of the dimensions that differs from the industry standard. He also stakes the front sight, at least on the SRP which I carry, which most do not. Thus, replacing sights on his pistols requires some custom fitting and more work than just pushing the sights in and out. Les will not use any sights other than the ones he has made, which are nice, but not as bright as some of the new ones on the market now like the TruGlo FTX. I am also experimenting with painting the front sight with glow in the dark fingernail polish, which may prove to be the final answer. The Delta 1 sights really have caught my eye as a very fast defensive sight, but they will need the glow in the dark treatment as well.

Yes, just use 100% acetone fingernail polish remover on a q-tip. It is a few dollars for a bottle and by the polish. I paint my sights regularly, very easy to do.
