Going early May. Made the trip last year and stayed 4 nights in Wimberley. We ate at INOZ, which we enjoyed, and did the rest of our cooking at our lodge on lone mans creek. Went to Hamilton Pool and Jacobs well. Will probably go back to both. Anywhere else we should plan to visit while staying in WImberley? Also, looking for somewhere to stop and stay one night on the trip home to Baton Rouge. We will have a couple of 4 year olds and a couple of toddlers. Thanks for the help.

If you don't driving a little farther, the Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg is awesome.

Around New Braunfels, Natural Bridge Caverns and drive thru exotic game park (separate parks with separate fees), Schlitterbahn water park, Gruene shopping and food.

Marble Falls, Bluebonnet cafe, Bill's burgers wings & things, Longhorn Cavern.

Johnson City, LBJ ranch, Lady Bird Johnson wildflower center (timing should be good in May), wineries

Yes, the snake farm, which has a petting zoo for the kids. And the Nimitz Museum. If you go to Fredericksburg, the wife and I like the Grape Creek Winery. It has a big patio where the kids can run around.

Yeah, there are four caves open to the public in the Hill Country: Longhorn, Wonder, Natural Bridge, and Cascade Caverns. All are worth visiting.

Thanks, I've been conflating Wonder Cave and Inner Space Caverns in my mind. I think I've only been to Inner Space, but for some reason thought I was at Wonder Cave.

I noticed that Wonder Cave is part of a complex called Wonder World. Has anybody been there? Any opinions?

A place I went as a kid and loved was Aquarena Springs in San Marcos. It was privately owned and you took a tunnel that had windows showing the lake outside and they had some teenage girls dressed as mermaids who swam around. I was at the age where I half-believed they were really mermaids. Today it is owned by the state -- no mermaids -- it has a small interesting museum about the aquatic plant and animal life and you get to take a glass bottom boat tour. The water is incredibly clear.

The Nimitz museum is fascinating for WWII buffs but would be boring to 4 year olds.

Bring binoculars.

Many of our colorful breeding birds will be here - Painted Buntings, Orioles, and if in appropriate habitat, Golden-cheeked Warblers.

Trips getting close; leaving Friday morning. Thanks for all of the tips. Booked a house in Spring Branch. Reserved our spot at Hamilton Pool. Jacobs Well's reservation system still isn't up and running. Plan to spend a little time at the Guadalupe River State Park also. Sounds like the snake farm and one of the cave sites are on the agenda also. Looking for a good spot to spend the night on our ride home, possibly between Houston and the La/Texas state line, close to I-10.
