I also use snares as one of my tools. Problem is when you find a hole under the fence to put a snare in the coyote has already come in. Sometimes that first time is too late.

And coyotes will get wise to snares. We have lost more this year than ever before. Seems lots of places are having a hard time with coyotes then previous years.

We have lost just under 30 animals (red stag, axis, black buck, whitetail, and fallow deer) in less than 12 months to coyotes on the Kerrville place. We have snared about half a dozen yotes or a little less. We also had a govt trapper come in with cyanide guns but that didn't yield any kills. We ended up getting sheep/goat wire and laying a foot or so on the ground and wiring the top to the existing fence. I then go back and lay rock on top of the fence to prevent any digging underneath. Tedious work but hoping for good results.

Kind of a bad way to go but an old government trapper told me you can soak a piece of natural sponge in bacon grease and hang it from a tree for them to eat. Once they eat it the sponge will swell in their stomach and they can't pass anything through their intestines and die.

I read on another web site about using shark, or treble, hooks and metal cable and suspending the baited hooks just high enough off the ground that the coyote would have to jump to grab the bait. I've never done this. I just read about it. I'm not even sure if they were serious about it, or if it was just a crazy idea that was thrown out. Maybe not such a good thing to post on a public forum. It ranks right up there with drowning them, or shooting them, or poisoning them.

A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.
