What all would I need to get started reloading for 6.5CM and 7mm08?

I would start by buying two reloading manuals and reading the detailed how to in each. After reading each to point of comprehension decide if its an adventure for you. Then you can make your list and you will receive all the input you could ever need here.

You dont need fancy gizmos to load quality ammo. You do need a quality single stage press, powder dispenser, trickler, and scales. Moderately priced calipers help a lot. The Lee hand tools for deburring/chamfering are fine to start with and inexpensive. Of course you need dies. I use Lee and around here that makes me a second class citizen although Im pretty sure my reloads perform with most here. I also own RCBS and Redding.

Things that will save you time but are absolutely not needed are:

Bullet comparator

Seating dies with a micrometer

Automated powder dispensers. RCBS Chargemaster etc

Automated brass prep center

The process of reloading is not complicated. The 2 cartridges you mention are pretty straight-forward to reload. Handgun cartridges are slightly different.

The best advice is to get with an experience handloader & spend an hour or two loading some ammo. Starting with a kit from Lee, Lyman, RCBS, or Hornady are all a good way to begin.

Good Luck & enjoy what will surely be your new hobby!

Buy a kit and some dial calipers. If you can read you can reload. Its not hard.

I can teach you hands on, at the range, with your rifles, and my equipment, or your equipment. Have done that with RedSnake, KRoyal, and CitySlickerHunter.

So how much would it cost to get started? Would this kit, dies, powder, brass and bullets be all I need to get started?

Personally, I'd go this route, instead. That hand primer from Hornady is scrap metal, brand new from the package.

You will need dies, and some other tools, but that kit will make good ammo.

Why do you want to reload?

Personally I would make a plan before I bought anything. Does the base kit align with your goals? Depending on what you want to do you could easily be spending some more money.

I am with fireman I like the RCBS, but for a different reason. IMO the triple beam is more accurat than the scale, but its slower

Youd also be welcome to visit me at our country place near Groesbeck to learn to reload rifle and pistol. I only have a 100 yard range, but it is only 25 steps from my reloading gear.

I also agree with the suggestion to get started with RCBS gear, though Lyman, Redding and Hornady gear is as good. I have some Lee products, but that wouldnt be my first choice for most reloading equipment.

I dont have dies for either cartridge you want to reload, so youd have to bring them.

Don't forget YouTube university. Lots of good info and u get to watch people doing it.

I'm still very much a beginner and started with a hornady kit. Still seems like a good move.

This... its not difficult or overly complicated (unless you want to make it complicated.). Reloading manuals will tell you everything you need to know. Memorial Day and 4th July sales will be coming for sure.

I agree with every bit of this. Why are you reloading? For 6.5, unless you're really wanting to do lots of serious precision shooting, the factory ammo is almost too good for the time/money spent reloading to be worth the hassle.

For 7-08, it's a different story. But it's worth at least asking the question of why you're wanting to load.

If you're dead set on it, I agree with the RCBS suggestion. I bought a RCBS Rock Chucker early last year and it's been very good. Nothing wrong with Hornady/Lee/Forster, but the RCBS kit is a great value that includes 95% of what you need to make great ammo right from the start.

How does this kit compare to the one from midway? Looks like it has most of the same stuff

Quick look, the Amazon kit is missing the thrower, which you want, the hand priming tool which you need. What would it cost to add those to the Amazon kit?

TRUE Story. Great day of learning.
I'd recommend 100% up PM IF you have any questions for me.
