Do any of you have any first hand, hands on experience with Ruger's new PC 9? I mean, shooting it, reloading for it, taking it apart and cleaning it? (Not interested in how ugly you think it is!) I want to hear real operating experience, please, and hope you will save the "ugly" observations for another thread! Is it accurate? Is it reliable? Those kinds of things.

A friend just got one, I put a few FMJ rounds on target at 50yds - it shot OK. He hasn't complained yet and he would if it were problematic. In 9mm, it's just not something that I would be interested in, so I honestly didn't pay much attention to it.

The Big Brown Truck just delivered my new Ruger PC 9 Carbine. I took it apart, ran a couple of patches through it, changed the mag well from Ruger to GLock and then back again; changed the mag release from LH to RH; added a spacer to increase the LOP a bit; mounted a red dot on it and bore sighted it. Unfortunately, my thoughtless wife signed us up for a social engagement this evening that begins at 5pm, so I won't be able to put some rounds through it until tomorrow. I like what I see: it's made well; feels solid; comes to the shoulder nicely; trigger breaks cleanly at 4 lbs. and it ought to be a hoot to shoot.

I bet it runs and is plenty accurate for its use and limitations. Let us know how it does!

I want one.

I got out to the range this morning and gave the new PC Carbine a very good workout! I put 280 rounds through it without a single failure to feed or failure to eject. I used both magazine wells and they both ran perfectly. I shot factory and handloads, in weights of 115, 124, 125, and 147 grains; and different bullets from FMJ to solids, to JHP's; and I saw velocities from 1260 to 995 fps. Accuracy, from a rest, with a red dot, at 50 yards, went from one ragged hole out to about 2 1/4 inches. The best groups were with 124 grain JHP's. For the last "test" of the morning, I dumped a pile of mixed ammo types out on the table, randomly selected them and stuffed 30 of them into a Glock mag. Then, shooting off hand, I fired the little carbine as rapidly as I could. Not so much as a hiccup! The bottom line, after my first outing, is that this is a real winner for Ruger. I'm really liking it a whole lot!!

I ran out and put another hundred rounds through it, including some Liberty Civil Defense +P stuff that is advertised at 2000 fps with the 50 grain bullet. Everything went smoothly, with no failures of any kind.

Anyone ever tried NovX 9mm ammo? Sounds nasty; definitely pricey!!

That NovX, out of a handgun, delivers ME in the class of a .357 Magnum shot out of a 4 inch S&W! I realize, of course, that "muzzle energy" isn't all there is to stopping power, but I am looking forward to testing some of it in the Ruger Carbine to see how much additional velocity and energy I will get out of the 16 inch barrel. When I compared the velocity and energy between my 3 1/4 inch barreled pistol and the Carbine, using Liberty Civil Defense 50 grain ammo, MV went from 1932 to 2604; and ME went from 414 to 753. Some statistically significant difference in both measurements. Of course, how all those numbers might convert to stopping power is subject to a lot of discussion, but I'll see if I can find a feral hog or two do some lab work for me.

I got out to the range this morning before the wind picked up and tested the NovX rounds (the +P practice rounds with an advertised MV of 1635fps) through the carbine and a pistol.
5 shots through each firearm; chrony set at 15 feet in front of shooting bench; 65 grain bullets
Through the 3 1/2 inch Glock, the average MV was 1657fps
Through the 16 inch PC9, the average was 1980fps; an increase of 323fps
And they were accurate, as well at 50 yards!
Didn't get a chance to try the ARX rounds, because the wind began to blow my chrony over! I'll try them on a calm day, but expect them to perform just as well as the RNP/s.

Note that this NovX 65 grain bullet, driven out of the carbine at 1980fps, produces Muzzle Energy of 566 foot pounds, which puts it between a .45ACP and a .357 Mag (fired from hand guns). If Ruger decides to come out with other, more powerful, traditionally hand gun calibers, it could get really interesting for those of us who like to tinker with these kinds of things!

I've been following your thread. I've been eyeing one of these for months.

I held one a few months ago and dang near walked out with it.

All the reviews, YouTube videos and your review match up.

Handy, accurate, reliable and good price point.

I've been holding out for them to drop a .45 acp.

I hear ya! My son wants one in .40 cal, and is convinced it's coming before too long! In the meantime, he's content to run as many rounds through my little 9mm as he possibly can! smirk

I just added a KAW XL Linear Compensator to the new toy. (Please don't ask me why; my wife already laid that question on me I didn't have an answer for her, either.) I'm well on my way to making this new Ruger such an expensive rifle that I'll never be able to get my money back if I should decide to sell it. But I don't see that happening any time soon!

I’d love to get one and cut the barrel down for an SBR.

I would really like to hear a report on that ammo versus a 124 or 147 hollowpoint on a hog!!

I've got some 124 grain Gold Dots in the shop, and I just picked up a box of Hornady's 90 grain XTP's to try. The store was out of 147's, but they are on my "to do" list.

My Social Director has not yet given me the time to try out the new compensator. I'll give a report when I'm allowed to do the testing.
