Curious as to what everyone does- homeowners has pretty low limits on firearms coverage.
NRA "free" limit is 2500$.
Any suggestions?

Some insurance will only cover up to a small amount on firearms and you need a separate rider, and some will include it in the contents coverage.

We just switched from Farmers (with a rider) to Farm Bureau (part of contents) and Cody got me all set up. Get with varmintslayer on here. He's an agent and had awesome prices.

I have a rider as well for firearms and camera equipment. We use a "broker" who shops with about 10 different companies for the best rates. They're always better than the rates I could get with an agent for a single company. PM me if you want more info.

What documentation do they request for a rider? Full descriptions, serial numbers, photos?

This policy says no serial numbers required:

ArmsCare

Texas Farm Bureau covers firearms (as noted above) as part of contents. The homeowners contents coverage also extends to vehicle or other location such as public storage unit.

I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.

I just added a rider on my homeowners policy. Pretty reasonable. Didn't realize they weren't covered under regular policy till I changed a couple years ago. Glad my agent discussed this me.

Ever wonder if the home owners policy covers the accessories such as scopes, slings even if guns are not after a certain amount. I wonder why they will cover a $5000 tv set but no guns, a $3500 dress but no guns, 2 or 3 $2500 computers or laptops but no guns, a $20000 dining room suite but no guns??? Anyone know the answer????

I've insured my whole collection (accessories & all) through collectinsure.com. Low premiums, no requirement to provide serial numbers or even an inventory to them except for $10k+ single items. Covers theft even outside the home, fire, flood, etc...

How do you file a claim if they have no idea what they are covering and no way to know if you had something in the first place? Sounds like a huge burden for you to prove after.

They cover guns, but only after a large deductible, and sometimes there is a limit to how much value in guns they will cover (because you could claim to own some really high-value pieces with no way for the insurance company to really know one way or another if you're telling the truth). Also, your TV or other stuff getting stolen probably means your whole house was broken into and you'd easily meet the deductible. That's not necessarily always the case with guns.

There are quite a few benefits to the rider, and it's only about $10-$15 a month for that peace of mind for $10k in coverage, which I think is what I have for my combined gun/camera value.

Without the rider, coverage for firearms on my policy with Allstate was $2000 maximum.

Same as you do with furniture, TVs, computers, or any other “contents”. Keep video/photographic records and serial #s. Everyone should be doing this anyway on all contents.

^^^^^^
This

My policy I have a list w/ serial numbers and scopes. Even a description of the stocks since some are old Fajen's and Bishops and are custom.
