Those old flat top 4 cylinder engines were awesome even just two wheel drive vehicles.

Light weight and skinny tires also made it possible.

Imagine why it could have gone thu in 4wd?

A skinny tall tire is hard to beat in mud.

These wide flat low profile tire are great in rock, sand and loose dirt but are terrible in the mud.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Lots of ground clearance also helps a bunch!

Hahaha makes me want to trade mine in.

A hunt based only on trophies taken, falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be.

My Brother always said 4WD will get you about twice as far from civilization before you get stuck.
At the time he had a mid '70's long wheelbase 4WD Chevy with 350, automatic and 6" skinny mudgrip tires.
If/when he got stuck, it usually required the D7 to retreive the truck.

that's exactly what my Dad used to say, when we were stuck in the 50's "the model A's would keep ring on going"

I heard this a lot growing up.

4wd has kept me from spending the night/walking out

Don’t do stupid things and it can be a lifesaver

Never chain up all 4 going INTO a new area. Can be a long walk out.

Atrac and rear locker on my Tacoma would go places where a lot of 4wds would get stuck. Even with BFG Ats that truck would go places I never could in other 4x4s. Totally stuck out in Fannin county in 4hi. Dropped in to low hit Atrac and locker button and goosed it. Anyone that has driven the dirt roads in Fannin county knows what the can be like in wet weather. I have a feeling I might miss that Tacoma one day.

Basically running on motorcycle tires. Those thin tall tires and light weight vehicle makes a big difference.
