Im about to start reloading for a Rossi 44 mag. Will it have any trouble stabilizing a 300 gr cast bullet? Eventually it will be a scout rifle.

Punch in some number and get a output on stability. GL Stability Calculate a stability factor for a bullet using the Miller stability formula. Output is red for unstable, yellow for marginal stability and green for stable. http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi

I did put it in a stability calculator. I just wanted a little reassurance. 1 in 30 twist worried me. Im used to a tighter twist.

How well does 800 x meter? I have an unopened bottle and saw a few loads with it.

I had a rifle like yours, it would shoot full power loads very well but would not shoot working handgun loads like 240 gr. bullets at 950 fps out of a 6 inch barrel. They keyholed so I went to a Rossi in 45 Long Colt which shoots everything well from full power to cowboy action loads. Greaat kids gun too.

You'll have to push the safe limit to get the 300 to stabilize in the slow twist Rossi.
I have the baby brother R92 in .357 and shoot 180s that require quite a wallop of a load. Then again it does everything well from 125s to 200s.....38S to .357M. I'm sure the .44M is similar.
Pass the gravy.

I have an R92 44 Mag Scout with the 20" barrel and shoot a 300-grain cast bullet using 20.2-grains of Lil'Gun. 1635 FPS, my 5-shot, 100-yard groups have averaged 1.952". When you cut five .432" holes into a 2" circle, not much paper left. Taken a bunch of hogs and deer with it.
