I have 3 AR15’s in 5.56. I am considering converting one to 7.62x39 for alittle more punch. Would all I need is a new barrel and magazines? I want the conversion to be cheap as possible.

Barrel and bolt. You'll want quality mags. That's it. Carrier is the same.

be sure to get the enhanced firing pin with the bolt, it strikes slightly deeper to bust the hard Russian primers better....

Also make sure your trigger isn't "light", actually the hammer part, even with an enhanced firing pin you can still get light primer strikes if your hammer spring is too light. It helps to use an extra power hammer spring. Extra insurance to ignite those Russian primers. Just adding on to what has already been mentioned.

I'd take a look at the 6.5 Grendel.

Never shot a 7.62x39 AR or any other non 556 case round that didn’t run like crap out of an AR15 platform.

Never shot a 7.62x39 AR or any other non 556 case round that didn’t run like crap out of an AR15 platform. I've built quite a few non 556 and 556 AR15's including 4 7.62x39, no problems as long as the correct parts are used, especially the correct bolts and mags. Actually the only 2 that gave me problems were on 556 cases, a 300 BO and a 556. No problems with 458 socom, 6.8 SPC, 300 OSSM, 22LR, etc.

300bo and 556 were probably gas problem. The problem I had with them was feeding or lack of.

300bo and 556 were probably gas problem. The problem I had with them was feeding or lack of. 300BO gas port in barrel was too small, drilled it larger and works fine now. 556 was feed ramp issues, still not feeding reliably ...need to work on it some more
