A real pleasure to shoot. Still not a fan of rails on 1911s, to each their own. Very nice. up

Nice Buzz! I used to shoot IDPA. You'll have fun with it Buzz.

I know the rail takes away from the classic look of the 1911. But I wouldn't buy one now without the rail to a light. It makes the pistol so much more useful with the rail. I passed on an awesome 1911 in 10mm with a rail. I kind of wish I had bought it. But I don't need another 10mm!

Chad, what load are you using for hunting with the 10?
Dan Wesson wants me to review a threaded 10mm and I would love to if I had good anti pig medicine readily available. Do you do any stout hardcast loads?

Hey Charles,

I hunt primarily the 180 and 200 grain XTP rounds. I've dispatched numerous pigs with the 200 grain XTP, and they have done very well. That's my favorite bullet for the 10mm for hunting. For general use, the 180 XTP's have done well, also. I can load a 230 grain lead hardcast, if you like. Just let me know! Thanks, Charles!

Chad

It doesn’t look ready for IDPA yet. Needs a skeletonized slide, flared magwell, aftermarket trigger, c-more sight on a 90* Mount, compensator, and thumbrest. Lol. Great looking gun buzz.

cool, with the 200XTP do you feel confident on big pigs without relying on a textbook behind the ear shot?

ha Ha, you don't know how accurate you are. That's the USPSC and IPSC open guns.

I will have to swap the VZ grips for some old Colt Government grips to make it under the maximum IDPA weight though.

I have an open class rimfire gun with most of those upgrades. It gets expensive. Got over $1100 invested in a .22 pistol, but good lord is it fun to shoot.

IMO, the 200 grain XTP offers the deepest penetration with good expansion in a handgun caliber. I have shot a charging pig from about 10 yards that was about 200-220 lbs, and a 10mm 200 grain XTP from a Glock 20 changed it's mind really quick. I hit it multiple times (and missed multiple times, too!) and it went down within 20 yards of the initial charge. I have also dispatched pigs in a trap with a 10mm 200 grain XTP, and it works very well. One shot stops with good shot placement. If I have to use a semi handgun, a 10mm Auto is the best option, IMO, for me. It simply works.

What’s IDPA? Do you sit at a bench with a rest and shoot a 1911 at 7 yards?
