While I raise and hunt 9 bluetick hounds on coons and lions, today my Bride and I are going to pick up our third red dachshund female. We have had two over the last 20+ years and lost the second one about a month ago. After loosing the last one, my wife was so distraught that she said that she did not want another one for a while. That "a while" did not last long as we are picking up the six week old puppy today.
I don't want a dappled, long haired or the mini's as I am a dog breeder and know that you have to have too many recessive genes in there to produce the odd characteristics. When this happens, you loose too many other qualities, generally brains and disposition.
Adios,
Gary

We currently have 3 Mini Dachshunds and love the little fellows. We refer to them as the 9 lb. dog with a 90 lb. attitude. This one turns 16 yrs. old this week.

A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.

Red ones are the prettiest.

We had a red mini for fifteen years. By far the smartest dog we have ever owned. Was alert to everything going on around our house and yard. She knew friend from foe instantly. Slept under the covers at our feet all of her life. Always ready to go wherever we went. Wasn’t scared of anything, apparently didn’t know how small she was.

They are extremely intelligent and gritty...also a little hard headed. The first one that we had was used to blood trail deer, retrieve quail, especially blues that would always get under something if crippled. She would also retrieve doves like a mini lab by swimming out into the stock tank.
At seven weeks, the third generation red female appears to be very intelligent and not afraid of much.
Adios,
Gary
