Hey all, Getting a Tikka T3x 22-250 1-8" twist rifle for a graduation present (getting my PhD this May).
Curious what bullets should I consider using? Thinking about the 70gr Accubond, 75gr swift, and/or 65gr Gameking. This rig will be used for deer, hogs, and paper punching.

Yes all of those are fine choices as well as 75 grain Hornady ELD M and 77 grain Sierra Matchkings. I personally use the 65 grain Gamekings for Varmint hunting and they perform very well. The 70 grain Accubonds aren't in production yet . I called Nosler and they said it would be later this year. Congratulations on your PhD.

Would the ELD M and/or the Matchking work for deer?

Does Tikka make a factory 1x8 twist rifle?
I've only ever seen them in 1x14 or 1x12...
Got a link to the 1x8?

I have used the 80.5 Berger quite a bit on deer and pigs from the 22 Creedmoor 1/8 twist.

Is that a match bullet? Not very familiar with Berger bullets.

I like the possibilities of a 22-250 in 1-8 twist Enough to make me seriously consider going to the dark side and buying a Tikka. That 70 grain Accubond would seem to be tailor made for it.

They are not cheap but the Swift 75gr Sirocco is what gets the nod in my 22-243. Thaat bullet has worked well from 10 yards to well over 300 yards.
I have also used 75gr and 80.5 gr Berger bullets on hogs and while they have worked and accuracy was great they have not been consistent with on game performance that the Sirocco has shown.

What is the typical barrel life (when groups start to exceed 1.5") of a 1:8 or 1:9 twist 22-250 loading 60- 70 grain bullets?

Don't know barrel life expectancy when shooting the heavy bullets but I expect it to be a bit longer than if shooting 55gr and under bullets.

At 1500 rounds, I would expect it to be done. 75 gr A-max is what I load in my 1:8 .22-250. Works terrific on prairie dogs. I have not, and won't try it on deer. I've got larger choices for that.

Where did you find some A-maxs? I can't find em anywhere. Or did you load up?

Loaded up on them years ago. I don't know, but will soon, Hornady ELD-M may very well perform the same.

Is that a match bullet? Not very familiar with Berger bullets. Yes it’s a match bullet Berger match bullets have a thicker jacket vs their hunting counter parts. I've ran 80gr vld at 22-250 speeds and killed a deer and some varmints wuth them. They are more than tough enough imo.

I’ve used both the Barnes 62gr TTSX and the Sierra 75qr tipped Matchking with good results.

Sierra 75gr tipped Matchking with good results. Loving those TMKs in my LR-308. They have done a great job on hogs and coyotes. I might be loading the .224" 65 gr version for a friend of mine, if he buys the .223 he's looking at.

Never seen a 75 gr 22 caliber Sierra bullet? Tipped or untipped. Here you go, DStroud. It's actually a 77 gr. www.sierrabullets.com/store/product.cfm/sn/7177/224-dia-77-gr
