Pictured is my rig for videoing shots on game from my scoped rifle. The camera is a Chinese copy of the "Go-Pro" that I bought off an on-line auction site for $9.00. The 1" tube is my "go to" tool for mounting Redfield/ Leopold scope bases.
Downside is no "Zoom", neither does a Go-Pro. This will be installed on my Savage Axis 6.5 Creedmoor....

I would use a head band around my hunting cap instead.

I have seen those cams, curious as to how good they are.

I would make an extra mount so that the cam can also be mounted on just about anything anywhere. The screw mount uses the 1/4" threads, a common thread size. I used a large heavy duty spring clamp with a video cam mount added to it.

I hope you test fire it with that contraption on the barrel, i doubt it keeps the same POI as it does without it.

I wouldn't attached anything to the barrel in that manner. Will it not attach to your scope?

I am astounded that anyone would think that I intend to install the camera on a rifle BARREL!
Note: The test rig is mounted on a 1" TUBE.
Most scopes (certainly ALL of mine)have 1" tubes.
Capiche???

FWIW, the Chinese camera comes with a complete set of accessories to mount it on a headband/bicycle handlebars/deer blind shelf/etc.
Using ANY of those requires you to take the time to turn on the camera, then focus on the target and crosshairs before you pull the trigger.
Using a headband mount would mean you would have to REMOVE the headband, then turn on the camera, then reinstall the headband AND make sure the camera is pointed at the same place you are shooting. Sound like a plan?? I think not.
Since the camera uses a miniature SD card, I have no idea how much time it will record if left "on" continuously.
Mounted on the scope, I am guaranteed that the camera and rifle are aimed at the same spot.
The picture shows the camera enclosed in a waterproof case for underwater videoing. The case is removable and a lightweight frame is another of the accessories.
I KNOW that the camera works for taking videos, what I do not know is the effect of recoil. The Creedmoor does not have as much felt recoil as my .243 Winchester.

The recoil is going to eliminate your "kill shot", if that is your intent. It would be much better to mount it on a tripod in your stand (1" PVC with nut glued in). Reach over and turn it on when you get ready. Redirect it as needed.

Redirect as needed?? You have to be kidding. With the camera mounted on my scope, I KNOW that the camera is pointed at the spot that I am going to shoot.
Who is to say that the target will stay in the same spot that the camera has been "redirected" to?? I.E. camera is pointed at spot "A', buck moves to point B before shot.
I do not buy the assertion that that recoil will effect my kill shot.

Well, I guess physics doesn't work in your world. Hell, take a selfie before the shot too. After all, it's not about hunting.

The same camera is listed on Ebay for $24.95. For all of you with a "better' idea, here's your chance to prove me wrong!

If taking a video of a kill shot is NOT about hunting, what is? The comment about a "selfie" ought to get you banned for a month...

Lol. Feelings get hurt easy? I guess we differ on what makes hunting. To me hunting is an experience. The kill is an after thought. Video taping it makes it a glory seeking event, not an experienced based one. My hunting memories are preserved in my thoughts, not something that I need to show my buddies and do the millennial "chest bump". Your mileage may vary...

You tell me what a "selfie" has to do with hunting and I will listen to what you have to say. Otherwise, you might take the time to read thru what I have posted as an explanation of another method of preserving a hunt.
As I see it, there is no "glory" in videotaping. Recording a hunt is something that others do and some of them make a living at it. It is something that I wanted to do and I illustrated a method for it's accomplishment.
In your case, you have your thoughts, in mine a visual record. It's that simple...you have a nice day..

So far, I have videoed about 2 minutes total time, in my home, across a room, pointed at the TV. The video quality was very good..the problem I see is the lack of zoom. The place where I plan to shoot a hunting video has a distance of 143 yards, blind to feeder. I have no idea what a video will be able to provide at that distance.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained..right?
So far it's only cost me $9.00 for the camera and $8.00 for the mini SD card.
It has also been educational to see how others might use a similar set up. Mounted on a rifle barrel?? Mounted on head strap?? LMAO!

At that distance the lack of zoom may well be your problem. You should just outside, range the neighborhood and film away. At least that way you will have some idea of the setup's potential. Just make sure there aren't any children in the area because that would be, well, creepy.

A buddy and I used to use his GoPro to film pig hunts. We used one of the small tripods and an extended battery pack that gave him something like 5 hours of battery life. We just set it up on the ground in front of the feeder and turned it on (making sure the first time that it would record everything under/around the feeder). We knew when the pigs hit the feeder so we'd show up 45 min to an hour early and wait. It worked great. Wish I still had some of the videos but lost them when my previous external hard drive died.
