What would you guy that pig hunt with a knife look for in a knife? I'll be working on a few designs this coming week. Let me tell you what first my thoughts. I'll be using thick .210 Ball Bearing Steel blued, 7-9 in blade, I'll be making some burlap micarta for the handles probably jimp them for getter grip. Either incorporate a guard or tang design to prevent hand slipping on to the blade. I'll definitely be putting an edge on at least 1/4 of the spine for better penetration. I'll be using some thick oil tanned water buffalo leather for the sheaths. I've made a few long blade knives in the past but normally design and build more skinner / hunter blades.

My go to steel is blued 52100 because of the alloy content and durability.

It will be a full tang knife, hidden tang knives for this application are not strong enough.

I'm not sure. These two would think about. Bowie or stiletto style, double edge, sharp point. Maybe?

I've always used firearms on hogs, but when I was in Australia the Aussies are crazy about pig sticking.

Here is a review of some knives that may give you some ideas.

I've been studying it a bit, I shoot them too. I'm too old to run after one or in my case it would be run away from. grin
That one on the Aussie page is about what I had in mind, I'm going to build the scales for it and shape it where a hand won't slip into the blade.

Mine will be pretty close to this.

This is a pretty good design as well. The handle is grippy and the guard is just enough.

I agree, I do like that guard, I don't want to put on a guard that gets in the way or is difficult to get out of the sheath. I think the key points are going to have to be good point for penetration, blade thick and tempered not to break, slim guard and handle designed not to slip and fit the hand good.
I build most of my knifes to fit my hand, I have bigger hands than most men, so if it fits my hand it will fit most men.

Don't want a slippery handle for sure!

I knew it, I have to double check when replying to my boss. I've sent some wired things.
