A buddy and I are leaving the Panhandle on our Harley's Sunday morning. We will be in Leakey for two days then who knows. Any thoughts on Hill Country Eateries...?

Keep going south. There are some fine eateries around south Padre Island this time of year.

Not a eating place but a really neat ride, go through Post on 84, go on south to 4 miles past Justiceburg, turn right on FM 1269. This is the road to Fluvanna. About 5 miles you will hit the south edge of the Caprock, whne you see a place to pull off and stop, take it and look back to the north, a great view of what we call The Texas Badlands.

Then on to Fluvanna and take FM 672 and it will take you back to highway 84.

This is a Google map screenshot looking north about 6 miles after you leave highway 84,

We hit it just right but normally would have. Was in a hurry at this time to get to 407 BBQ and OKC before nightfall.

did you keep a log of all the places you stopped to eat along the way? Did you hit up any of the suggestions listed above? looks like you took 281 north up to Burnet then over to Liberty Hill/Seward Junction before heading back south down 183 to 290 ...

when you have time post up where all you stopped with good or bad recommendations all the way up

Day 1:
Breakfast: my house with a scrambled egg sandwich
Lunch: Spanky's in Lubbock (Outstanding)
Dinner: Rolled in later than expected to Leakey; local grocery was open so went with a loaf of bread and deli sliced black forest ham with a chunk of table cheese
Day 2:
Breakfast: Mill Creek Cafe in Leakey for breakfast buffet (average)...but the pancakes were the BEST I have ever had...thick, light and fluffy; very tasty.
Lunch: Lost Maples Cafe in Utopia; Fried Pickles and a Patty Melt...very good.
Dinner: Mama Choles in Leakey; Carne Guisada Burritos...good but nothing special.
Day 3:
Breakfast: uh......Pancakes, two eggs over medium and sausage at the Mill Creek Cafe in Leakey...tasty!
Late Lunch: Lucy's Fried Chicken in Austin. Fried Chicken, Fried Deviled Eggs and Fried Chicken livers with Poblano Chorizo Gravy...it doesn't get any better. Off to Spring.
Dinner: Gringo's Mexican Kitchen in Spring...very good!
Day 4:
Breakfast: Big Earl Kolaches and hot glazed donuts from Shipley's
Lunch: still full of hot glazed donuts...
Dinner: Milano's Pizza in Frankston, TX. Get the hand tossed beef and pepperoni and thank me later.
Day 5:
Breakfast: The Creek Cafe in La Rue/Poynor...average.
Lunch: 407 BBQ; had brisket and japapeno/cheese sausage...outstanding.
Dinner: Cheesecake Factory in Oklahoma City...great meal then Crazy Craig's Carrot Cake Cheescake...need I say more?
Day 6:
Breakfast: Jimmy's Egg in OKC...always good and the best service ever!

That's it...arrived home later that afternoon; crashed on the couch. Got up later and had a Dude with Cheese from DQ and then hit the sack. Great trip. We're taking the Jeeps and the wives next time and will hit some more places.
Jim

Didn't know they had anything else on the menu...LOL. I would put Spanky's fried cheese against the world.

It is pretty good. Their burgers are meh but the cheese is fantastic.
