I am trying to sift through the various profiles available for Grendel barrels. It seems there is a lot of overlap in terminology out there. To get to specifics…. Precision Firearms has Lilja 920 and 720 barrels. The 920 looks like a bull barrel profile and the 720 looks like medium contour. I am leaning toward the 720 fluted, 20”, 1:8 with a target crown. Not getting it threaded for flash hider etc… Is the 720 too light a contour for fluting? BTW – I am building on Rock River upper and lower.

No. .720" is larger than 11/16", and smaller than 3/4", flute it if you want to.

Mainly this one will be for target and occasional hog, varmint… etc. (one of the reasons I wanted the lighter barrel). Also, I've never had the opportunity to consistently shoot beyond 200yrds and now I do... So I expect I will spend on a scope.. been looking at NF. Everything else I have is 4.5 x 14x 40 Leopold VX-3.

Flash hiders can provide a benefit of keeping the muzzle crown from damage and mitigate flash at the muzzle in certain circumstances...... if you are using night vision at night or are in combat.

My favorite weight out of the ar's I've owned is that of the arp scout profile which is closer to your lighter pick
I'm not a fan of 20 " heavier barrels because of balance. Jmo

Wp75169 - yes I'm an experienced reloader....7mm. 6.5mm will be new to me but I already have my first batch of Norma brass and am deciding on some dies.. Redding or Forster.
BIL - the 20" is more clumsy, agreed. .. But I want the distance / velocity gain.

I believe the gender is better with a 20", I didn't say anything about length, just weight
