On the 1911 Forum, many Dan Wesson customers were complaining of their new 1911's shooting HIGH. Many sent them back for new front sight blades.

Dan Wesson claimed no responsibility, saying shooters POA are different.

Most used to shoot at 25 yards

Now handgunners rarely shoot past 15 yards

25 for me.

15 is too close for a challenge and not productive identifying bad habits that lead to flyers and such, IMO.

I aim at the same spot from 3 yards to 25 yards and manage the keep them all in the ten ring. I’m not slow shooting either, it’s draw from the hip, fire 5 rounds in 8-15 seconds depending on the stage.

The Beretta shoots about 3 inches low at 20ish yards. My assumption is that the fixed sights were set for use of a heavier bullet. There’s no left/right error at all, but just the elevation error.

9mm NATO is usually 124 gr bullet. I would guess that is what Beretta sets their handguns up for. A 115 gr would tend to shoot lower at 20-25 yards.

We qualified at 25 yds in the Army and I thought it was very simple to do and that was with the crappy Beretta M9

Back in the day, as old folks are apt to say, we used what I assume were WWII/Korea era 1911A1s. They rattled when you shook em. And that’s what we carried as MP’s at Pendleton.

Anyway, I can shoot my old Python like a champ, and I just hope to get there with the Beretta. I’ll buy some factory 124 gr ammo soon and see if that corrects the POI problem. If so, i’ll switch to that bullet weight for my reloads.
