I generally stick pretty much to my shopping list, but today I was in my new HEB and just couldn't pass these up @97 cents.

Now what?

Slice them all up, put them in a bowl and sprinkle a healthy amount of white sugar on them. Throw some Saran Wrap over the top and put them in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours. They will melt the sugar and make their own strawberry syrup. Put this over some angel food cake, with a little whipped cream and you’ve got a great, easy dessert!

My mom used to make this when I was a kid, and I still enjoy it now and then!

That’s how my wife makes it! Even more syrup if they set over night

That was the marquee dessert at my grandmothers house when growing up.

I honestly don't recall ever eating fresh strawberries growing up ... used to buy frozen in the pint containers like half n half cream/milk came in. No one around us grew them and the grocery store never had them in their produce department. Small town grocery didn't have a lot of stuff we take for granted now. Broccoli, Cauliflower, asparagus, spinach are a few more I never had until going off to college, had canned spinach & asparagus but most of our greens were from my parent's or grandparent's garden (turnip, mustard, collard, etc.)

We picked them when kids in the Ozarks. They grew them up there.

They grew them just north of where I lived. We picked peaches in the summer after cotton chopping was over.

I came upon some wild strawberries a couple of times. Great texture but bland.

I love Strawberries. Wife cuts the stem out and puts cream cheese in them. Yum!
