That seems really big for a Texas cat.

Size has me thinking it may have escaped from captivity. Gotta be eating a lot to maintain that weight.

A few years ago a neighbor reported her horse was attached by a cat. Vet supposedly verified it and pictures put in the paper looked pretty convincing. I live just northeast of Mineral Wells.

On another note, that has always looked like cat country to me. Elevation changes, bottom land, and just real rugged over all. From the Brazos, to PK, up to Jacksboro and a little north of there.

One killed by deer hunter 6-8 miles north west of PK 5-6 years ago, several spotted by LEO on north side of PK. Friend saw one at night in same area that this cat was killed 10 years ago. Some country rougher than a wood haulers rear in that area.

I wonder if the lion was ever weighed, that's huge for Texas. That area is excellent lion habitat and has been known to hold a few lions over the years. I had a buddy who caught one in the area north of PK back in the 80's.
Adios,
Gary

GW guesses around 200#, that cat got hit right by our dove lease.

My boys and I saw one this summer west of PK. It was morning and I thought it was a big bobcat when it crossed the road. He stopped before he went under the fence. We stopped and it was a young long tailed cat probably 50 pounds.i told them that’s probably the only one they’d ever see. I’ve seen that one and two others. One was called up at night and the other made the mistake of sitting still under some rimrock shade in the daytime.

Here's a photo of it in the back of a pick up before the GW came and got it . The weight was an estimate. I've lived in Palo Pinto county 43 years and this is the second one I've heard of being killed in the county. The other was killed by a trapper on a ranch between Strawn and I-20 back In the 80's it weighed 160lbs. It's on display at BJ's pizza in Mingus. I've seen tracks and heard of sightings but never seen one myself.

When I was a kid (late 70's/early 80's), my dad hunted a lease on the north end of Strawn. I remember it had an old rock house on it. Anyway, while he never personally saw it, they always talked about there being one in the area.

I have seen them in the middle of Dallas. The last one was in a backyard just west of the intersection of Preston Rd and Westgrove Dr in Dallas.

Edit: If you feel like doing a little bit of urban exploring you can find their prints all over the Trinity Forest and between the levees west of downtown.

Wrong kind of Cougar. Highland Park, Southlake are full of those kinds of Cougars as well.
