Gentlemen, what is a reasonable time for simple meat processing from a hunt?

Here is the situation -- I shot an elk cow at Record Buck Ranch in Utopia TX and the skinned quarters, removed back straps, and removed tenderloins were picked up by butcher (Trophy Buck, Lytle, TX) for processing and shipping to CA. I would have butchered, hard frozen, and brought it back with me on an airplane but no -20F cooler was available at the time. So I had to go with a butcher. No grinding, sausage, jerky, fancy stuff needed because I like doing all that. I estimate it would have taken me (a skilled amateur) about 3-4 hours to do the primal cuts and prep for shipping.

The hunt was Dec 7. Trophy Buck processor had it "ready to go" 2 weeks later after the CWD test came back clean -- Dec 21. That seems reasonable. But I give them a break bc of the holidays so figure 1st week of Jan to arrive.

They keep saying we'll call you on a Mon/Tue to get your shipping info and 2 day UPS is over to you. Jan 8 goes by. Then Jan 15. Then Jan 22. Today is Jan 31 and still nothing. They don't return emails or VM.

Are these guys screwing with me? Is it reasonable to wait this long for an easy breakdown? I realize this isn't a hog but really it isn't that much work. I realize that they want to serve their local customers first, its a pain to pack up, etc.. but this seems absurd. So meanwhile its sitting in a freezer (who knows what condition) while I wait to write a fat check....

Am I uninformed or being a crybaby?? My guess is that they lost it, gave it to someone else, it got contaminated or spoiled - and now they're trying to figure out what to do.

I have a bad feeling about this.....

First, welcome.
Second, I've been on the Record Buck Ranch once. 'Hard to believe they don't process themselves and surprising they went so far for a processor, being that there are so many closer to the ranch.
Third, sorry man, but I agree, they're actions don't lead you to believe that this is going to turn out well. If Record Buck Ranch set this up, I'd be raising hell with them.

welcome

Contact the ranch and explain to them this was part of their arranged hunt that you paid them for. They need to resolve this problem one way or the other.

Agree with Creekrunner and Pitchfork, considering you are out of state and if that was their suggestion for processing then they should do the leg work for you from here.

I say a week to two weeks for basic cut and wrap. Past that I think something is wrong. Sorry this happened to you. Just a heads up but I have used Rust Game Place off Hwy 46 near New Braunsfels for more than a decade and never had a problem with my products or a customers, even out of state shipping. I dont mind plugging someone that has done a great job for me and my business. I hope you get your situation fixed. I would contact the fellas at Record Buck and just see if they can help in any way. They may tell ya to go fly a kite or they may just know how to help a client out. Sometimes things get fixed when its all in who ya know to contact.
